Inventory and open tickets

Hi everyone, just a few questions if anyone knows

1. When an open ticket has items in are they reduced from the inventory on restaurant's, ie if I add different drinks to a table on an opened ticket will they be reduced straight away or only once paid for

2. We are only a small business but the owners of the business don’t pay for items ie drinks, is there away to set a open ticket to account for the items taken so inventory is always correct put this open ticket would never actually be paid for and then once per week remove this open ticket hike keep the inventory correct again with out paying

we need to have an accurate inventory so we are 100% sure of stock levels

also has anyone got a good setup for tips we currently use the payout feature to sort tips and then manual split the tips equally between staff, I have tried to use the tips function on square but so far I have not been able to get it to ask at cheque out for tip amount or any thing we take cash tips as well as round up card payments for tips, so currently when we do that the cash one’s gone in to a tip box and the card ones get paid out through cash draw then cash taken out of draw and put in tip box

any help please help

Hi @Theredlionek thanks for your post.

1) When an open ticket contains items, they are typically not immediately reduced from the restaurant's inventory. Inventory reduction usually occurs when the items are paid for and the order is finalised.

2) The only workarounds I can think of here would be to create duplicate items set at £0 - that way you can track stock but not actually charge any payments.

Or - you can create a separate "dummy" or "holding" open ticket. Add the items to this ticket as if they were being consumed, but never actually complete the transaction. Then, as you mentioned, periodically remove this open ticket to adjust the inventory. This way, you can ensure inventory accuracy without actual payment for these items.

In terms of tip management - hopefully, some other sellers can drop in here with their own experiences and suggestions.

I would also suggest taking a look at our support centre article on managing tips - it may include some helpful information.

I hope this helps.
