I pay taxes in multiple city/county jurisdictions and would like the default to be modified.

I provide mobile services in multiple tax jurisdictions. The trouble is, square has the default option set “on” for all the tax jurisdictions I have created when checking out in the point of sale application.  During a point of sale transaction at checkout, I end up needing to turn off all the jurisdictional taxes (City/County) that I do not need.

I now have 20 jurisdictions and individual tax rates and this has become cumbersome.  I would like the option to just choose the jurisdiction I am in at the time of sale instead of having to turn “off” the jurisdictions I do not need.  I believe this could be done by creating a switch that would allow users to to choose how to asses the taxes at check out in the point of sale app. Basically allow the option to reverse how the setting is applied now.

I understand why this option is as is because most traditional stores are in a single jurisdiction that doesn’t change, however, for those of us who travel to provide services this would be helpful and time saving at checkout and payment.  Thanks for your consideration in advance or other solution tips.

Hello @M1rrorEdge and thank you for providing this detailed post. I can see that the current tax settings aren't ideal for your mobile business!

As a workaround, if there's any way you can group some of these jurisdictions together you could create a different location for each group. That way when you sign in to the app and select the specific location you're in, you'll only see the tax rates for that group. That would reduce the number of taxes you'd have to de-select.

In the meantime I will share your request with the Point of Sale team for a way to change the default tax settings. Thanks again for your post!

Has Square moved head with any the multiple jurisdiction taxes? My state requires me to collect taxes for every city & county I ship products to or deliver to. Of course, few, if any cities and counties have the same tax % and I have customers all over the state that order from us. We are not allowed to simply charge taxes for our location since we deliver and ship to other areas.  We also have variable tax amounts depending upon what we are selling. Some products have specific exemptions from regular sales tax rates due to the industry they are connected to.

Thanks for checking in @McNair. Nothing new to share yet, but we'll make sure we do when we hear of any developments.

We have the same issue and it is something that may require us to move to a different payment processor.  We have to send out estimates and invoices all over our state and need the ability to apply the correct tax amount to estimates or invoices at that level, not the items individually.  We have hundreds of items and to go in and change the tax at item level each time we have to charge a different tax rate not feasible.
