Hi @k_atie Yes that covers most.

Simplistically, at POS and Online checkout, embed the current loyalty signup link and tweek it so that it captures both email and mobile numbers not one or the other (can refine this so you could have the option collect both or either). Position it as loyalty with benefits (gain points) but with the understanding that on signup you may receive marketing communications (promotions, coupons, vouchers, new product introductions previews). Collect the customer contact details in their profile in a clean GDPR compliant way (ie confirmed opt-in, automatically unsuscibe upon request).

Use the profiles in Square Marketing automated emails, newsletters etc.

Something along the lines if the above would be perfect  but you could take to the next level and make the loyalty login page a bit more customisable so not just showing points but we could use to promote 'things', latest products, promotions, coupons, etc.

But just being able to collect details for direct marketing at both POS and online is a must for an online business (we need attempt to capture every/as many customers we can)👍

Thank you for the detailed feedback @doc_choc, this will help our team have a better understanding of how they can help improve the current workflow. I'll make sure to add those details to the conversation we are having with our product team as they are working on exploring some of these features.

Hi @k_atie

Apologies for the delayed response.

On your point For Online customers: you can collect their marketing consent at checkout

I have this option selected which used to show a checkbox at checkout where customers can select if they wish to receive marketing emails. This is no longer visible at our checkout. This issue arose about 2months back as we have not received any opt-in subscribers since then.

Also the loyalty pause button does not seem to work. I paused the loyalty scheme in the dashboard as the the opt-in box problem happened around the same time as the loyalty scheme was activated. The pause didn't remove or prevent signup to loyalty at checkout and pausing did not seem to remove the problem of the marketing opt-in checkbox disappearing.

It loosely feels like the two issues are linked. A little concerned we are missing the chance to capture much needed customers, especially during these difficult times.

Can you confirm if the marketing opt-in tick box should be visible at checkout if option is selected in the checkout fields?

Many thanks

Thank you for the detailed explanation, @doc_choc. I'm gonna check internally if this is a known issue with both Loyalty and Marketing and if someone is looking into it. I may have to file a ticket as this definitely doesn't seem like expected behavior.

I'll get back to you once I know more.

Thank you so much. Its really import to our business to be able to capture email subscribers at checkout and this time of year  (festive season) we have so many subscribers, we need to capture them to compensate for the lean times and natural loss of subscribers throughout the year.

And we need a way to easily capture email addresses both in Square Invoices and Square Online, which populate a single centralised mailing list that supports Square Marketing, without any GDPR barriers that prevent us (acting on behalf of the customer) or the customer from signing up.

Thanks,

How do we keep our mailing lists current? We are currently collecting email and loyalty signups via the loyalty sign up link at POS, we are also using this link to do the same on the website (as it is the only way to add them to the marketing sunscribed list). However we also have the weebly newsletter signup and popup to collect emails on the online webdite. Theses appear in the Square online dashboard mailing list while the others appear in the Square Marking dashboard. Once a month we spend approximately 3 hours trying to get the lists we use in weebly promote current, deleting unsubscribers, exporting subscribers from Square marketing to weebly promote, changing status from subscribed to opted-in and so on. Its all very complicated, time consuming, lacks accuracy and involves a lot of spreadsheets and data movement (yuck). It also means new subscribers are are on hold for the month until we can get them added to the list. As we are currently straddling two systems Weebly Promote and Square Marketing are there any suggestions how we can make things easier for us in terms of managing mailing lists, keeping them current and useful while continuing to build the mailing list? Good practices or guidelines 😊

Looks like I've come across this discussion after having a similar need. Could you give any guidance on how to use the "2. Collect customer information with a hosted sign-up page mentioned in the https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5976-get-started-with-email-collection-tools,   it doesn't appear to be available in our customer screen setting, but would sort our needs. Thanks

Hi @Johntredinnick - thanks for your post.

I apologize for the confusion, but the support article you referenced is for Square in the US. For the UK, the specific method you mentioned is not currently available. You can find the available options in the attached article.

(The country prefix can be seen in the URL) - let me know if you have more questions.

Thanks @Breffni , so before I do anything else (like mailchimp) is there any way to provide customers with an online link (which we'll publish on our site and in SM) that will allow them to sign up for our marketing? Or is there a timeframe to get the same functionality that the US has? Thanks

Hey there @Johntredinnick

Jumping in for @Alegra while she is out of the office. You can definitely send a link to your customers to sign up and also generate a QR Code in case you wanna display it anywhere. This all can be found in your Marketing Settings Page. You can learn more about this in our Customer Collection Getting Started Guide

I hope this information is helpful!

Hi All,

I know this thread was a little while ago but I just wanted to add another voice to how important having Weebly Promote and Square Marketing is. Everything @doc_choc mentions we are struggling with too now.

We don't want to pay for a Square Marketing subscription and a Weebly Promote subscription and have two separate lists as it increases the costs (and the work required) too much.

My other concern after reading this thread is if the Weebly/Square Online sign up form is not GDPR compliant for Square Marketing. Is it GDPR compliant for Weebly/Square Promote? How can it be okay for one but not the other? We currently use the Promote subscription for our marketing emails to our customers that sign up online, but I am now concerned that there is a GDPR issue with that?

Thanks

Claire

@ReefPassion not sure but it may be something to do with the double opt-in. I think with Promote there is a double opt-in, but I don’t think Square Marketing has it. I think there may be some over thinking of the GDPR requirement by the developer. We always learn a lot by looking at other companies and a lot can be learned by looking at companies like Shopify and Mailchimp that have it nailed, especially the latter as it’s what there strength is. We used to use Wocommerce and we just collected emails, built our subscriber lists it really wasn’t this complicated, our subscribers lists now are complicated, confused and quiet possibly not the cleanest GDPR compliant as they need to be. At the moment with the system as it, it feels like we have a half baked pie with a soggy bottom. I’m hoping Square are seeing these teething problems and are working on something in the background to make email collection and unsubscribing a simple and hassle free process 😇

Was this ever resolved?

I have an opt in to our email list section on the home page of our square online website, but have just realised that this isn’t making customers show up as ‘subscribed’ for marketing to them automatically.

Hello there @AnnaBYLY

Hi @AnnaBYLY , we had similar challenges. I believe there is a transitionary period where certain functionality is being moved to the Square Dashboard, and the marketing function there. It has a few limitations at the moment using the signup link but I'm sure knowing Square functionality something great is in the pipeline. I would say the signup link will straighten out your subscription status query.

Further to this - I see I can now include a pop up on my site to collect GDPR compliant emails for marketing - yay! Thank you!

However I would really really like the option to be able to just have this integrated as a part of the page the way our previous ‘sign up to our newsletter’ section was, rather than a pop up. Is this going to be possible at any point?
