How do I change my last name on Square. My legal name has changed after marriage.
My legal last name changed in 2018 after I married, this includes my SS#, bank accounts, all licenses, etc. I have been unable to make my name "legal" on Square. PLEASE HELP!

Sadly you can't change your last name on your Square account. There's an entire thread about this issue and I hope square can resolve it soon.
Until then I don't think it's a huge deal for the name on your account to stay your prior name unless you're going to do a credit card or checking account of some sort. (That's my opinion, which could be wrong).

I have tried for about a year to have last name updated. No success.
The process requires setting up a new account then transferring the account. BUT you cannot do a transfer if you use payroll or Square Loans. In my situation, I am unable to change my last name at all.
Frankly, Jan 2023 we are no longer using Square for this very reason... In fact, we are sad to make this discussion but after great debate we decided that Square is worthless if they cannot update someone's legal name - IRS, bank, etc are able to but not Square - as easy as they update business name or EIN...

I spoke with at least 10 different customer service reps at Square about this issue and was able to confirm that they are simply not willing to solve this issue. They insisted that opening a new Square account would allow me to utilize my new legal name (which I still think is a ridiculous solution. I shouldn't have to start from scratch for a simple name change, but I digress). I attempted opening a new account, but because my SSN was tied to my maiden name, that's what it pulled up and set as my name on the new account as well. No option to change it.
As of today, I've decided to no longer do business with Square. I've been with them for 7 years and have been happy with their services until now. But lacking a feature so basic like a name change is absolutely unacceptable, not to mention a risk at tax time when they generate my 1099 form among other records. I can't continue giving my business to a company who so clearly does not have an interest in fixing a basic feature such as this.
