How can I add a customer to the customer directory in offline mode?

Many of the locations I plan to use my square terminal will be off the grid and use in offline mode. 

I am getting an error when trying to add a customer at check out when in offline mode.

It looks like you would need to be connected to the internet in order to search and add a customer to the order. I'm going to see if I can clarify this with the team for you. 

 

 

Edit: Just want to add that I realize now you are asking how to add a new customer to the directly, however, I am assuming the same answer would apply. I'll let you know what I find out.

Yes,  I would like to be able to add the customer so we will have the phone number and email on file.

Hi @notubes! My name is Alanah, stepping in for BernadetteA here...

 

I was able to test this out on my own Square Terminal and ran into the same error while not connected to Wi-Fi. I also tried this while using Offline Mode and got the same result. Looks like you'll need a network connection to be able to add customers from the Directory to your sales.

 

If you're unable to connect to a Wi-Fi network, you could utilize a mobile hotspot on a phone or tablet as a temporary connection. If you'd like to learn more about this type of connection, please see this article from our Support Center.

Good to see you posting in the Seller Community again, welcome!😊

 

When utilizing offline mode, the app does not function to its full ability due to the lack of server communication and internet connectivity.

 

The ability to add data in offline mode is not a feature currently. Offline mode in general is something that should only be used as a last resort when there is no ability to connect online. 

 

When operating in Offline Mode, there is additional risk with any payments you accept. Square is not responsible for any loss due to declined cards or expired payments taken while offline or for chargebacks.

Since we would need to be connected to a network in order to access the Customer Directory, unfortunately this is not a feature we would be able to implement in this case. Apologies for any inconvenience surrounding this. 

Do you happen to often be in an environment where you're not able to connect to a network? You could try connecting to a mobile hotspot instead, as suggested here by @CANDLESTORE. If you're connected to a hotspot, you'll have access to the same functionalities as you would when connected to a traditional network.
