How Do I Apply a discount to only certain items in a transaction (currently discount applies to all)

Instructions https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/5362-apply-discounts,  showing how to set this up are not options available to me .  Is there a step I need to do prior to this?

Hi @drlinda - thanks for posting. 👍

@charsue is totally right, it is necessary to create the discounts in the item library before being able to apply discounts as shown in the article you linked to.

To set up discounts in the Square App:

  1. Tap the three horizontal lines at the top-left corner and tap Items.
  2. Tap Discounts > Create Discount or select a discount to modify.
  3. Enter the discount details and tap Save.

Hope this helps clear things up — definitely post if you have any further questions. 🙂

Some of my discounts appear at the bottom of an item which is where I need them, but most do not. How do I get them there? I often have to use different discounts on individual items on one transaction. Help please!

Welcome back to the Community, @tewsfamily

Are all of your discounts set up the same?

It sounds like the item specific discounts are appearing like that, but I want to confirm how you have those set up.

I will keep an eye out for your reply👀

Has this ever been resolved? I think the design has changed since the original answers were written but based upon a lot of replies that didn't help anyway. All I want to do is discount the item and not this shipping.

Why do no dollar discounts show up for a specific item. i want to add multiple items to a cart and discount only one or two of them. If I can do percentage discounts there is now reason I shouldn't be able to add discounts for dollar amounts $1-20 off and apply to a specific item. I sell furniture and generally include multiple sku's. If I want to give a customer $5 off one item and $20 off another to make a deal I cannot. It either applies the dollar discount to all items in the cart or I have to do a percentage which makes no sense as I would have to have 1% to 99% different discounts so I can adjust correctly.

I've asked this before on this platform, why is there not more access to item specific discounts in real time. If I sell something for $450 and want to discount $35, I should be able to edit the item in real time to $415 and not have to add a $35 discount which again doesn't even show up when I open my discounts page. Only the % discounts do.
