Gift cards

I have a client that is trying to use a store bought gift card. It is not a chip.  Every time I try to key it in manually, it declines the card. I tried using the duplicate card option to no avail. 

Can someone please tell me why I cannot very this card to go through? Thank you.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with your customer's gift cards. Square accepts gift cards with a major credit card logo on them, such as the ones shown here.

I would also suggest taking a look at this thread where another seller asked a similar question.
