Does anyone use square to take trade-ins?

I own a drum store and one of our keys transactions is to buy or trade used drums. Does anyone use Square in this manner? We would like to upgrade our system to the Square POS, but there is no way to do this, then we'll need to go with a different system.

Hi there!

That's a pretty interesting request that I personally haven't heard before.

While there isn't a way to record a trade-in, there are a few work arounds that you can use for reporting and also for crediting for the trade-ins itself.

For instance, you can create a $0.00 item named "Trade In", and ring up this sale for each trade-in that you accept. This will give you reporting for the trade-ins.

And for the customer, you can discount a sale based on their trade-in with a variable discount, or you can issue store-credit through our Square Gift Cards or a Gift Certificate / Credit of your choosing.

Hopefully one of your fellow sellers can chime in and help out.

I do trades with people from time to time and would like to be able to keep track of credits for people within the square system. How do I enter that in the system without tender or a return of product?

Hey @caitlyn567 - I've merged your post with a thread related to trade-ins. While we don't have an exact solution for this, hopefully EJ's workarounds can offer some help.

idk if there is a better way but i have been issuing egift cards and closing out the gift card as payment other(trade in) then  when creating a report I treat the trade in giftcards as purchases which negates the sale of the gift card in the system. Not the best way but works for my accounting team.
