Discounts and EOD reports

I have been using a typical register for transactions which has worked great, but want to switch over to square. I have concerns though.

1. I want to be able to apply a discount to an entire ticket versus each item. Some of our customers buy several items and if my cashier has to keep going back and forth to apply the daily discount, this may be an issue

2. On the register, if we did a discount on the entire amount of $5.00 (actual total sale = $2.50), my EOD report would say total sales = $5.00, when in reality total sales = $2.50 and total discounts = $2.50. We have several departments and sometimes we make deals. (so we may have a $5 item that we negotiate to $4 and do not need to apply the discount) So we either have to enter the actual discount amount ($2.50) or put in the full price ($5.00) and hit the 50% button after each item.  I need to make sure that the EOD report is going to show total sales at $2.50 for the day. Does that make sense?

@RustrialRenovat Thanks for considering Square. Happy to answer your questions.

1. You can apply a discount to an entire sale or to a specific item. The steps to create and apply a discounts are in this Support Center article.

2. If you apply a discount to a sale or item the discount will be shown in your report:

  • Gross Sales show the total sales before any discounts were applied.
  • Net Sales will show the totals sales after discounts were applied.

You do have to apply a percentage or dollar amount discount so this data can be included in the report. If you often give discounts of $1 for example you could create a discount for that amount.

Hope this helps but if you have any other questions about Square let me know!

I have a related question.  We do have a discount key setup and the discount applies to the total sale for that particular event.  However, in the item detail and therefore summary detail, only regular prices are reflected.  A real live example: total sale $198 with 16 items discounted 50% = $98 actual sale.  However, the 16 items are included in the sale report item detail at full price -- and the same holds true for the category summary.  What do we need to do to reflect the actual NET SALES in the item detail and the category summary.
