Customer Discounts

We would like to be able to automatically apply discounts to specific customers or customer groups. For example, if a customer belongs to the group "Gold Member" they should receive an automatic discount when a transaction is assigned to them on POS.

 

Additionally, we would like to set the rule at the discount level, as different discounts apply to different products. So for example, Gold Members may be entitled to ยฃ0.20 discount for beverage purchases but ยฃ0.10 for snacks. If the customer belonging to the Gold Member group is selected, we would like all the relevant discounts for their transaction to be applied automatically based on this membership.

Hey @ARFC and @Dirky, I just want to follow up on this thread and let you know the feature to create discounts for specific customer groups have been rolled out. You can read more about it in our Product Update. Right now, this feature is only available for the Square Point of Sale services.

Hi @ARFC, thank you for sharing this feedback!

 

I know that there is a new feature in the work that will allow you to automatically apply discounts to specific customer groups. It looks like the feature is being rolled out gradually right now so once we have confirmation that it has been released to all sellers, I'll be sure to follow up and update this thread.

 

With regards to setting a discount rule at an item level, this might not be available immediately with the new feature but once it's fully rolled out, I'll be able to get more information on how it'll work as well.

I would also like to be able to apply a % discount to a group of customers, however we need this to be consistent across the POS or Square online. Hopefully that will be possible?

Are there any plans to extend this functionality so that it works with Square Online? Weโ€™re assuming table service will still be necessary when we are allowed to reopen and weโ€™ve been using the QR codes to allow customers to order at their table. We need the same discounts to be applied to our customer groups as are applied via the POS.  Thanks

Hey @ARFC 

the only way I've figured out to do this so far, is issue the customers you want to have discount with a coupon code, which gives them X% discount. This could be a card or such like with code on it. They have to use this code for online sales including self-serve.

However, if they order via the POS, then these same customers must be in a group, which automatically assigns them the discount.

I'm getting the impression the online and POS are very separate and distinct and this stops a lot of things which should work from working.

Thanks for the reply. Hopefully we can encourage Sqaure to enhance this. We would ideally like to maintain the discounts once as weโ€™ve got 3 categories of customer groups with different discount rates. The coupons are presumably open to abuse, ie sharing

tried this feature yesterday, set up a group called "gold members" added 3 people to it, set group to 10% discount, selected customer name within group to do a test run and no discount added ๐Ÿ˜•

Hi @CM2Balloons, thanks for flagging this! So that I investigate this on my end and try to replicate the issue, can you let me know:

  • Was the test purchase made on your Square Point of Sale app on a mobile device, your Square Register or? 
  • When was customer added to the sale - before or after an item was added? 
  • What's the version of the Square app you are currently using? Is there any pending update?

Once I have a bit more information, I'll be able to check it further!
