The Square app requires an internet connection at all times to function properly. This can be either a WiFi connection or a data service on your mobile device (such as 3G, 4G or EDGE).
If your network connection is interrupted or temporarily unavailable, you can enable Offline Mode to process swiped card payments.
Since Internet options vary by device and geographic location, among other factors, we cannot recommend a specific Internet solution for you. If you have additional questions about what will work best for your business, I recommend speaking to a network specialist or your wireless provider.
If you do not have a WiFi connection or data service plan on your mobile device, you can still record cash payments. We will send receipts associated with these payments to your customers once your device has access to the Internet.
