Can I send invoices thru Text Message?

I see that we can send invoices via email, but is there a way to send them via text messgae?

@JVHovey - here's a visual of what @jj22 is talking about. You can select Share Invoice Manually and it will give you the option to Share once the invoice is created.

If you missed that step, you can Share the link after an invoice is sent. Simply locate the invoice, click, and select Share. Depending on where you are sharing from and whether the invoice has been paid, you may need to select MoreShare.

Hey there @ochnahealth! Welcome to the community. Glad to have you here.

 

If you copy the link from the “share invoice manually” you can copy the link to send in a text.

 

The option to share via SMS is still a Feature Request but this option has saved me for years in my personal business.

Guys this isn't a hard thing to do! And it's now Mid July 2019?! Really?! I realize y'all are making money hand over fist and are probably focused on the sexy sexy things that get talked about and being in New Users, but like I teach everyone of my clients - there are 3 Ways to grow a business.

 

#1 is to get MORE CUSTOMERS of course, but

 

#2 is to get those customers to be "spending" or in this case "earning" you MORE MONEY and

 

#3 is to get them spending or earning you more money MORE OFTEN!!

 

What we're asking for will accomplish both #2 & #3. If we can send more invoices taking up less of our time and remind them to pay more often and use the #1 Medium for how high of a % see/open your message (95%+ Open Text Messages) and how much faster they interact with your message (avg. SMS opened in 9 seconds) - that will all translate into more transactions per user, higher % of completed transactions and faster average time to a competed transaction!

 

Is that enough of an "in your own best interest" argument to maybe get this bumped to the head of the Feature Development Line?

@KenFoody Appreciate your feedback here. I don't disagree that this feature would make life a lot easier for both Square Sellers and your customers! We have tons and tons of feature requests come through on a daily basis, and our Product Teams do their best to prioritize each one. So just want to let you know that we're certainly not ignoring this request, or others for that matter! We take each feature request very seriously and continue to pass them up the line each time we see a new post or message.

Hi @nika ,

 

Thanks for keeping us pacified with this workaround.  But this is a feature that many many people can really use.  The last movement on this feature was 5 months ago and I'm sure it's fallen lower and lower in priority with the dev team.  

 

In short:  I need to send recurring invoices via text message.  This feels like a simple feature - I would even call it 'low hanging fruit.'

 

Everybody has a phone number.  Not everybody has an email address. 

 

Please please can we get the priority raised on this feature.  Maybe add it to the first sprint of the new year?!??!

I totally understand the urgency behind this need. Nowadays, texting is the most popular way to communicate,  so I can see how sending text messages makes for a more modern and convenient way to send invoices.

 

While I'm to prioritize the order of the feature requests that come here through the Community, I can certainly add your post as a tally mark on the back end for tracking.

@JustinC  what do you mean when you say that you're the one who prioritizes the feature requests that come through the community? 

And what do you mean when you say that you can certainly add a tally mark to the feature request for "tracking" - I'm assuming you mean texting?

That's making it sound an awful lot like since this thread is SO old and it's no longer the squeaky wheel, it ain't got get any grease any time soon, but thanks for playing the game.

Do we need to just start an entirely new thread with this feature request only and see how many of active users would pile on to make it more interesting to you guys? Shouldn't the length of the request have SOME bearing on it's importance?

Tell me what kind of "groundswell" you need to see to have this feature become a priority man,

Good luck getting anywhere with this request! I've begged for two years for this feature! I am at the point where I am going to start looking for another option. Hey square, go look at how much we process through y'all and see if your willing to loose our account to keep playing around with doing NOTHING to make this improvement for the ones of us that really need it. I am sick of having to sit down and text 30-40 people each month to get my money because no one checks their emails!

this is actually pathetic they have done 0 to remedy this situation, it doesn't appear they will in the future either. im currently downloading new invoice & payment apps and will let everyone know which actually do what we are all looking for.

Once you have sent an email invoice to the customers email or any email like your own, then you can open invoice from sent folder, scroll to the bottom and select MORE option. Inside MORE option you can select SHARE option and choose a person via text to send a link to. This works great.

Yeah, it works great for 1 or 5 but, when you have 55 plus each billing cycle that never open an email it takes hours to send theses out via text each month. We've been with square for nearly 3 years now, and, myself and others have been requesting this from day one. Nothing ever changes except silly stuff like how the lists are pulled up.  I did love the feature that was added where you could add reminders and had mine all set up where all I had to do was click a button and then bam, all of a sudden I am having to manually add them to each invoice again. I will never understand some of the stuff square refuses to change and I also don't understand some of the stuff that they take away from us.

If you haven't figured out by now, Square is a good platform, but take it or leave it as it comes.  The development team is not going to change a single thing on how it works.  I have had several easy fix requests over the years and they go no where.  There is zero flexibility on the platform and it appears this will continue to be the case.

It just seems like there is a workplace cultural problem at square. I agree with what the people are saying above. So many features that competitors readily offer are not available on square despite them having been recommended time and time again on these forums. Like, get with the program guys.

Why hasn’t this feature been added? Sharing manually is a kludgy way of going about it. If you have your customer’s contact phone number you should be able to send an sms directly to them with a link to the invoice. That would prevent email invoices getting bounced to junk mail which seems to be what happens every time i send one.

Two options.
Option 1: If you have email and phone number you first send email invoice. Then you will have the option to open sent invoice, scroll to bottom and pick “MORE” option. There will be an option to send a link to invoice to any phone number you choose. 
option 2: if you only have a phone number then send invoice to yourself. Once email has been sent to someone, then you will have the option of “More” same as option 1.
