The title of this post has been edited from the original: Online Store: Can the pickup option be automatic instead of shipping?
Our customers prefer the free pickup option to paying for shipping but they're having a hard time finding it. In the cart of the online store it automatically shows shipping as the option, is there any way to change that so pickup is the automatic option?

You can now select a default fulfillment method for customers by going to Settings > Checkout > Advanced:

This is becoming a serious issue for us. We have about 10 orders a day that come through as shipping, but the customers wanted to pickup. Really hope this is updated ASAP. We need to be able to select pick up as our default and not shipping.

Has this been addressed? I would like to have customers be able to choose and then save their personal default if possible. Otherwise, at least a way to be forced to choose rather than default to ship even if they have to do it every time.

Please separate Pickup & Delivery in the default fulfillment setting so that Delivery can be set as the default fulfillment method.
After a couple of months, customer feedback has shown us that many people just cannot figure out how to select delivery. That has skewed our order 3:1 pickup to delivery and places a much greater workload on the pickup staff. It's actually easier for us to add delivery drivers than to manage more pickups.
Obviously, it would be great if the Weebly UI made it more obvious for shoppers how they can change between pickup and delivery, but changing this setting seems easier to implement in the short term.

We're having the same problem but shipping vs delivery. Any way to change the default fulfillment method to be delivery vs shipping (currently)? We primarily do deliveries vs shipping (or pickup).
Another way I've seen done is to add the pop-up below before entering the site but I don't know how they did it!

So far, my workaround to enforce delivery as the default fulfillment is to make all the products delivery only and not shipping. Since we did this, our shipping customers have complained that they can't place an order for shipping and we end up entering these ordered by hand. Not great, but our delivery customers (95% of our business) are happy 😅

Is there a way to always have curbside pickup selected upon checkout? That way the curbside message, car make/model are always shown for the customer.

Although you the default fulfillment method can be set to Pickup, curbside will not be automatically selected. If customers want curbside, they have have to check the curbside pickup box in their shopping cart.
They'll see the the curbside message and car/make model right below the Curbside option.

@JustinC I see, the reason why I'm asking for this feature is due to recent events of COVID, my stores and I'm sure other stores cannot operate in-store and therefore can only offer curbside pickup.
If customers do not select this curbside, they are not given proper instructions, which ultimately breaks down the smooth flow of fulfillment between customer and us. Therefore if we can select curbside as a requirement - it will help prevent this breakdown in the process.

Our checkout defaults to Shipping for Fullfilmment, and we'd like it to default to Pick-up. The majority of our items are pick-up, but we offer to ship

Hello,
We run a winery and our customers are getting confused by the shopping cart delivery options during checkout. I've had many local customers (who should chose free delivery or pickup) accidently pay for shipping fees because shipping is the 'default' option in the shopping cart. This leads to refunds and hassle.
Is there a way to change the default shopping cart behavior so that I can chose the delivery default? Currently, when I enable shipping on my square online site, the shopping cart makes shipping the first (default) option, which is confusing my local customers.

Hi Valentina,
This feature seems to be broken. When I access my website from a Chrome Browser, the website defaults items to 'shipping' even through I've configured the site to default to 'pickup' (under Settings -> Checkout -> Advanced -> Default fulfillment method -> Pickup).
When I try the same thing from Firefox browser, the website correctly defaults checkout to 'pickup'.
Can you please look into why Chrome browser is somehow showing the incorrect default? This is leading to customers accidently checking out with shipping expenses they don't want/need.

Hey @Kevin77! I'm stepping in for Valentina today. I just tested this on my Chromebook, and Chrome browser, and it defaulted to pickup for me. Are you able to clear your browsing history, cache, and check for updates then try again?
