Can I select the default fulfillment method for my website - between shipping, pickup, and delivery?

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Online Store: Can the pickup option be automatic instead of shipping?

 

Our customers prefer the free pickup option to paying for shipping but they're having a hard time finding it. In the cart of the online store it automatically shows shipping as the option, is there any way to change that so pickup is the automatic option?

You can now select a default fulfillment method for customers by going to Settings > Checkout > Advanced:

There is not currently a way to change the way this option appears on your online store.

We really appreciate feedback and suggestions like this. We definitely want your online store to make sense for both you and your customers. I will make sure to communicate this to our Product Liaison Team

We could use this feature as well. Please consider adding a feature for a seller to pick which option between shipping/pickup is selected by default. Alternatively, what would be even better is a drop-down field that requires customer input. Currently it's a dropdown that defaults to shipping, but it would be nice to default to a "Choose one..." option before placing the order. We are an operation that provides shipping but most of our orders are picked up in person, and I can't begin to count the number of times a shipping order comes in with a customer note saying "I didn't want shipping" meaning we have to issue a refund.

We would also like to be able to default to pickup.

Due to the confusion for our customers, I may need to remove the option for shipping.  This would be extremely unfortunate, limiting the purchase of items to locals only.  We had hoped to offer shipping for the holiday order this year, however I'm having to personally contact people who have made purchases to confirm their intention to have items shipped when they live just down the street from Circus Juventas.

We would like this as well.  I have to email all of my online customers separately to ask them if they want ship-- they always thank me for letting them have a pick up option and then I have to refund the shipping charge.   

 

They can't find this and they don't want shipping --   having a mandatory drop down where they see both options or default to pickup would be most helpful

Hi I want to remove the shipping option from my online store. We do not ship anything so I just wanted to say in-store pick up. Is there a way to do that?

I moved your post to an existing thread where another seller had the same question.

 

I reached out to Weebly and the update from the last post in this thread is that you can change the fulfillment options to just Pick-Up from > Settings Pick-Up. There's also a checkbox under there to default all future items to Pick-Up too. 🙂

Actually, you can only edit to make it pick-up or delivery. There is still no way to make it pick-up only.

Please provide an option in the Online Store to disable shipping. In response to the COVID-19 "stay at home" order in California, we want to offer in-store pickup only (via curbside). We sell books, crafts, games, toys, etc.

I have read and implemented the hack as outlined in the following article, but this will still be confusing for shoppers:

As an added bonus, it would be helpful to add a config option to enable "Scheduled Pickups Only" which allows us to open the store by appointment only to fulfill orders.

Hey @msharps.

 

I just want to make sure you're using the Square Online Store, and not SquareSpace. We are different companies. 

 

I know for us, we have an option to only provide Pickup for future orders (which disables shipping orders):

 

 

 

These settings can be found here, within the Online Store section of the Square Dashboard.  I hope this is helpful. I've moved your post over to this thread to prevent duplicates.

I want to add to the discontent with the way that pick up, delivery  or shipping is displayed during the checkout process.  Because shipping is the default, and people in general don't read signs or fine print ( I include myself in this btw), they don't take the time to shuffle between the options even though there are 2 places in the checkout process, before hitting the checkout button to pay, to select how you want to grab the item...ship/pick-up.  We've had to include wording underneath our head banner that states shipping, pick-up and regional delivery is available just to make sure they know they can select pick-up when shipping is the default. 

 

I like the idea of not making anything a default, but make them choose after confirming the contents in the shopping cart.  So, for example, hit the shopping cart icon, review all products to be purchased and hit the NEXT button which takes the customer to the next screen where they choose method of fulfillment...i.e. shipping, pick-up, regional delivery, and then the program runs as it currently does.  If shipping is selected, then they add their address.......

 

Next complaint is the incorporation of Shippo as of 2 nights ago.  Before Shippo came around, the cost to ship something from UPS via Weebly was consistent for a particular area....within 2-4 hours from us was $11 or so, 1 day ground.  It was cheaper than going through UPS's website, which is offering 40% off right now.  However, after Shippo is involved, the rate doubled to $20 with delivery between 1-5 days!!!!! Serious!  I could drop the package off in 2 hrs.  So Instead, I went through UPS, got charged $10 and the customer got their stuff the next day.  So what gives with Shippo?

THIS is exactly what I came here for!
I want to offer shipping and pick up for all my clients - because we do have some out of state. BUT 95% of my clientele is local - and I have at least 1 order a day where I have to REFUND THE SHIPPING because they "couldn't figure out how to do pick up." 
I have made image instructions - I have made video instructions - and I think people are so quick to click CHECKOUT before reading the full page - that they don't realize the place to change the option is in the cart view. 
PLEASE made it so we can set Pick Up as default but still have shipping as an option. @ashc or any other Square Admin, please!

I have looked through the forum and found where it shows to turn off shipping, however when I follow those steps it is still allowing customers to select shipping.  Later when I tell the customers that it doubles the cost of their order to ship to them my customers get very upset.

Looks like there's been some cosmetic changes since @Isabelle__'s screenshot. The option to disable shipping is underneath the Order Tipping box if you scroll down in your screenshot.

I'm having a similar problem - I'm trying to make Pick-Up the ONLY option: I have changed our settings to default to Pick Up, but it still defaults to shipping. I then tried to delete all shipping regions and it changed to allow shipping to any/everywhere! How do I turn off the option to ship?

Most of our customers would prefer to pick up their orders but the Weebly site is NOT very intuitive when it comes to selecting pick up as it is not an option at the checkout. Can we set up the pickup option as the default for all orders?
