We’ve rolled out a new feature – offline payments – that enables you to take dip and tap payments on Square Stand (2nd generation) and Square Reader for contactless and chip (2nd generation and 1st generation, v3) when you do not have internet connection. Offline payments are already available on Square Register and Square Terminal, and we are excited for the expansion of this feature!
Not sure if your reader can take offline payments? You can use this Support Center article to identify your reader.
Allowing offline payments is easy…
In your Square POS App tap More > Settings > Checkout > Offline payments > toggle on > Allow.
Once you’ve activated offline payments you can dip, tap, or swipe without being connected to Wi-Fi. However, you must reconnect to the internet within 24 hours to upload transactions taken while offline. There is additional risk when accepting payments offline, our Offline Payments Support Center page will walk you through exactly what these risks are.
