Hi Sellers!
You can now easily refund past purchases to digital eGift Cards directly from your point of sale.
Refunding to eGift Cards is a great option for your business - they’re free to use and the perfect way to offer your customers store credit. No additional hardware or physical plastic gift cards are required!
When you issue a refund to a digital eGift card, your customer will receive an email with their balance and a gift card redemption number. When they are ready to come back and spend their balance, they can just show you their eGift card to use their credit.
Next time a customer needs a refund to do a return for store credit:
- From your Square point of sale app, open the navigation menu and tap Transactions.
- Enter the receipt number or the credit card number in the search bar to find the transaction.
- Tap the transaction you want to refund and select Issue Refund.
- Select the items or the amount you want to refund and tap Next.
- Under Refund To, select Gift Card > Create eGift Card.
- Enter the customer’s email address in the box. This will autofill if you have already added your customer’s email to their profile in your customer directory. On the customer-facing screen, your customer can edit the email address or enter in a new email, if needed, then tap Done.
- Confirm the email address with your customer, then tap Done.
- On the Refund Complete window, tap Done.
If you haven't started using free eGift Cards yet, visit your Square Dashboard and go to eGift cards to get started. Once you set up your eGift Cards on your account, you can start using them to process refunds as well as sell them to your customer as gifts both online or in-store.
