Add a customer at checkout to deliver faster, better service

As you know, providing a quick, easy, and personalised checkout experience for your in person, repeat customers increases sales, retention, and customer satisfaction. Weโ€™re excited to announce a quicker way to add customers at checkout and see their full customer profile in Square Point of Sale. This feature is available now on your iPhones and iPads using Square Point of Sale version 5.82.

 

Adding and viewing customers at checkout allows you to:

  • Provide a customised, VIP experience. Important customer information is all in one place, so you can reference detailed purchase information such as your regularโ€™s frequent items, preferences, and feedback.
  • Speed up checkout. Quickly access and add frequently purchased items from past visits.
  • View the loyalty status and rewards available to your repeat customers, if you are opted into Square Loyalty.
  • Create personalised and fast checkout experiences, leading to more repeat customers and larger tips for your employees.

 

To get started, ensure Customer management is enabled for your Square Point of Sale device.

  1. From Square Point of Sale
  2. More > Settings > Checkout
  3. Customer management
  4. Under Collect Customer Information toggle Before checkout to on

 

On iPad

  1. From Square Point of Sale > Checkout
  2. Tap Add a customer in the top right corner
  3. Search for the customer by name, phone number or email address
  4. Tap the customerโ€™s profile to add to sale
  5. View the customers active, available rewards coupons, Frequent items and more.
  6. Tap arrow to the left of the customerโ€™s name to complete the sale

On iPhone

  1. From Square Point of Sale > Checkout
  2. Tap Review Sale at the bottom
  3. Tap Add a customer in the top right corner
  4. Search for the customer by name, phone number or email address
  5. Tap the customerโ€™s profile to add to checkout
  6. View the customerโ€™s Loyalty status (if applicable), Last visit, Frequent items, Feedback, and more
  7. Tap arrow to the left of the customerโ€™s name to complete the sale

This feature is currently available on iOS Square Point of Sale version 5.82, but will be coming to Android, Square Register, and Square Terminal later this year.

So will this mean that the customer name is now printed on the receipt?

While this doesn't add the customer's name to the receipt, it will allow you to add them to a sale more easily, so you can view their details in-app, or via your dashboard @Lizsarbo. We're still tracking this feature request, and the workaround would be to add your customer's name as a note to your sale.
