Cash Drawer for Square Terminal with no wires?

Hi all,

We use Square Terminals in our busy cafe/bar and need them to be wireless. We need a cash drawer that locks & opens on sale. I can't find anything that allows the terminal to remain wireless but operate a cash drawer. Is that the case or am I missing something?

Can see threads on connecting it to the hub & it working that way but that won't work as the Terminals are used table to table.

Thanks 🙂

Hey @Sandsoftyne....... @Breffni is amazing but also wrong here! There is totally a way to work this for you (and also cheaper than USB cash draws that suck) 👍

Pick up a cheap (but compatible) network receipt printer and your cash draw of choice to go with it. Some makes use specific interfaces between printer and draw so just double check.

Then, set up the printer on your terminals and you're all set! Job done.

The cheapest and most solid printers will need to be connected to your network via an ethernet cable, but you can also get wifi ones but these cost more (but still cheaper on the second hand market than USB cash draws).

This way also means that any device you end up using for payments in the future (I'm a massive advocate of just using a phone with Tap to Pay now) will also be able to add your printer/draw combo.

Hi @Sandsoftyne 👋 thanks for your post.

To plug USB accessories directly into your Square Terminal, you would need the Hub for Square Terminal. The Square Terminal cannot wirelessly connect to a cash drawer at this time.

The Terminal’s internal printer is not compatible with printer-driven cash drawers at this time either.

Would having a designed Point of Sale station with an iPad for example with a connected printer be a workaround? Team members can go there to cash off for cash sales.

@Sandsoftyne just googled you too because of the name. I moved to Cambridge from Longbenton 9 years ago, but back up there loads - so will try and pop in next time as your place looks awesome!

That is right - what an oversight, thank you @Sam_400º for your insights and knowledge, always!

@Sandsoftyne Apologies for any confusion caused - it looks like you'll be able to set up exactly what you had in mind 😊
