Trouble setting a shipping profile for a physical item.

I have a physical item, want to restrict sale to USA, and set a shipping price.  

 

The item is for sale on my personal website (outside of square website).  So I have it set as "hidden".  I'm using a square checkout link on my website.  This part works great.  The user clicks on the link and they are taken to square for checkout.  Wonderful.  

 

But -- when I try to set up a shipping profile for that specific item, I'm getting random results as I surf around in my account trying different things.  Nothing works.  

 

And if it maybe works, without me knowing, I have not been able to find any page that summarizes what exactly is going on with all issues related to selling my item (eg shipping profile).  

 

Why is this so difficult and is it even possible?

Is there anywhere in square that has a precise step-by-step procedure to set up shipping conditions for a link?  I'm all over the place in buried menus, where some seem redundant.
