Square Verification Form FAQs

As Square is a card processing company, occasionally we need to learn about businesses and the types of goods and services they are providing. We do this to make sure we are maintaining a safe and secure card processing environment for both our sellers and your customers.

This means you may see a notification on your Dashboard requesting some additional information. If requested, please enter information to your online Square Dashboard.

Why do I have to complete a verification form?

Squareโ€™s Account Services team may require some additional information about you and your business. This is part of our work to maintain a safe processing environment for all sellers and customers. You may be asked to provide documents such as your government ID, an invoice, purchase order or bank statements from the bank account connected to your Square account. You may also be asked to provide some customer information. For example, in the case that you havenโ€™t met your customer in person - these types of payments are associated with higher risk.

Square also has a dedicated Disputes Team. If a customer files a dispute for a payment they made at your business our Disputes Team may request some additional information about the payment. Hereโ€™s a complete walkthrough of the disputes process and steps you can take to prevent disputes.

What happens next?

Complete the verification form on your online Square Dashboard to the best of your ability. If you donโ€™t have a document please add the closest document available. When you have submitted your information youโ€™ll receive an update from Square by email in 1-2 working days.

Keep in mind it can take up to 90 days for a card payment dispute to be resolved as the customerโ€™s bank must resolve the case.

What if I donโ€™t have the requested documents?

These information requests are a general way to gather more information about businesses using Square. If some of the questions are not relevant or applicable to your business, you can upload an equivalent document in its place or a word document with a short explanation about your business. The more information we have, the better we will be able to understand your business.
