I have a permanent jewelry business and have 10 different styles of chain that I would like to put in inventory in inches so that I know when I am running low. What I do that?

use Sell by Units.  : 7237-stock-conversion-sell-by units

Have the the Chain come into stock as 600 inches and then sell by the inch so if you need an 18 inch chain the price is $20.00 for example.  You do not have to have the price set at $1.00 per inch, but at 18 inch chain sells at $20.00 or a 16 inch chain sells at $19.00 etc

But your inventory will subtract the length of inches you have set off of the 600 received.  The only thing I ran into with this in my store is when I receive a Case of candles (144), I need to receive 144 candles not 1 case of 144.  So you would need to receive the total inches not 1 roll of 50 feet (600 inches).  I hope that helps.
