How do I allow customers to add items to cart?

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to allow customers to add new items to their cart, and how to check out using the link provided. How do I attach the link to the website? Do I have to create a separate link for every item combination a customer decides to purchase??

Just so I make sure we're on the same page, are you sending checkout links to customers or are they purchasing from your fully built Online Store?
