I have a square terminal and would like to now get a cash drawer for my business. Does the Square Cash Drawer work with the Terminal?
Thank you.

Hey Goosey,
Are you using the terminal always plugged in or is it being used carried around?
The terminal supports USB cash draws, but in my opinion these aren't a great option. More expensive, you need the USB hub & also always need to be plugged in.
If you've got the option to use ethernet then I'd check eBay for a cheap external printer from the supported hardware list (here) and then plug a 'normal' style cash draw in. You don't need to use the printer at all, but it's the part that will power the draw & make it open when needed without the need for your terminal to be plugged into it directly.
Star also do a 'magic box' that will connect their regular till draws to a network - but these are pretty expensive & do the exactly the same job.

Thanks so much. The terminal will be used at my business location initially, and I may consider using it out and about in the future but not planned yet, so I could keep it plugged in. I wanted the terminal so I could easily print receipts for customers. I'm pretty much good to go now but realise that I need to give customer the option of paying with cash so need to get a cash box or drawer. I thought that if the Square cash drawer was compatible to work with the terminal (or an iPad, as I have the Square app on that, too), that'd be great. I'm not the best techie so trying to figure out the best solutions can be mind-boggling at times 😉

Hey @Goosey - not sure the business you're in, but could the best option to start with to be to 'do nothing'?
Maybe have some change if a customer wants to pay by cash, but no invest in a cash draw set up just yet. Then you can see how things work out - if you end up wondering about or moving the terminal a lot then you've not invested in something that in the end isn't going to work. Or, if you end up being static & taking a fair amount of cash then you know that it's a few quid well spent.
I'm a mobile van so I know I take advantage of the battery life & stuff, I don't often accept cash (only have to on some events) but have a manual cash draw for when I do those so no real messing about.

Hey,
Sorry to dig this thread up.
I've a couple of Square Terminals, and some Ethernet printers which are set up as print stations for this terminals. The cash drawers don't open for cash sales from the Terminals (but do from iPad app) - can you think of a setting or something that I've missed?

hey Matt - sorry but cant’t think of any reason for it not to work. You’ve obviously got them all set up right as they’re working on your iPads - might be worth a call to support to look into everything?
