Hi all,
Newbie here so please go easy on me!
So I'm opening a coffee shop that sells food.
We do breakfast sandwiches for £3 for 1 item. However you can have 2 items for £3.50 and 4 items for £4. Then you can add further items for £1.
Currently by using modifiers if a customer wants a bacon, sausage and egg sandwich it would cost £9 as each item is set to £3.
I've tried setting the sandwich to be £3 but then each other item would have to cost, say, £1 which is't inline with the intended discount for buying a 2 or 3 item sandwich.
I hope that makes sense!! please help, we open on Friday!!!!!!!!!

As you’ve already found out there isn’t a perfect way round this on the 3for2 or x for £3 etc. promotions.
This is how I’d set it up:
Product 1
1 item. Modifiers show each of the options it could be, at no extra cost
Product 2
2 times. Modifier A for 1st item (reuse modifier from product 1), Modifier B for 2nd item.
Product 3
3 items. Modifier A & B + new C. Then Modifier D for extras at £1 each.
Modifiers A, B C would be ‘only one’ selection then Modifier D with as many as you want.
Hope that makes sense!

@KennedysCoffee - you can run both together, so you can test them out & see what you think.
Both will do just what you need by the sounds of it, so it'll come down to which one you prefer.
Once you get used to the layouts etc. the biggest consideration might be that for the Resturant app all the configuration & menus have to be done online (no speedy changed as lunch time hits!) where as for the regular POS all the layout/configuration is done on within the app (so changes can take longer to do, have to be done separately on each device - but can be done on the fly).
If you've got staff that will be running things on their own then the Resturant app is awesome, as the design & layout being so specific it guides them through nicely & encourages add on sales. It also means it will stay as you set it - they can't 'break' the layout or how you've set it up once it's all there ready.

I just had a lovely chat with a guy on support who also offered the same advice.
My next question is, do I need square for restaurants?? will this allow me to allocate items to a table etc for people wanting to set up a tab? It appears to be free?

Hey @KennedysCoffee, I'm just stepping in for a moment here!
Table Maps are available with the Square for Restaurant free plan and that will allow you to assign items to a particular table.
However, you can also do this with the Open Tickets feature which is available on both the Square Point of Sale app and the Square for Restaurant app. Open Ticket will let you name the ticket as a table and manage open tabs. You can read more about this feature here.
