You'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to use a custom domain?

Planning on attaching my Google Domain URL to my current Square Free Site. Curious is anyone has done this and did you really have to go to a paid Square Plan? I am confused and do not want to do it until I am certain. Trying to cut some costs on my end in these expensive times. Square keeps telling me that "You'll need to upgrade to a paid plan to use a custom domain?" everytime I verify my domain, but doesn't say I have to go to a paid plan after I do... I have been cancelling before going to the next step due to uncertain results... Please help?

HI, to connect a domain name to your store you need to have a Paid Plan.

You can keep the .square.site free plan as long as you wish.

@Mike1968 You really have 2 options.  I fully support the paid plan and think the benefits for your domain to be tightly integrated are well worth the expense at $144 for a year for the website builder, better reporting, and tight integration.

If you need to keep it on a budget, there is the ability to connect a domain on a personal plan for 6$ a month (72) billed annually.

You can also set up a url forwarding to the yournamehere.square.site if you like, but I don't recommend this as google, search engines, and security firewalls hate url forwarding.

I used the free till I got everything looking the way I wanted and then switched over.
