Why is square not relieving inventory when items are comped out?

In our business we often comp items for donations or mark it damaged.  We are in the process of doing end of year inventory and have found everything we have comped out in the past year has not relieved our inventory.  This has always worked in the past but is no longer working.

Are you only seeing this with comp items or any other part of your inventory, like returns?
