@HairbylisaeThat fee is for the simplest and most secure card transaction you can process — where your customer swipes or taps or dips their card in person. If you manually enter the card info, or process it other ways (invoices, online, etc) it is more. The more represents Square’s exposure should the charge be disputed. Here is the full fee structure.
Other things that can affect your payment — do you have a Square loan? Are you enrolled in automatic savings? Did you have to do a refund and the money wasn’t in your balance?
if you can be more specific, I can probably help you track this down. Just please don’t reveal customer’s or your personal information.

A 20.00 haircut should be .52 cents plus .10 cents right? So .62 cents total. But why does. 89 cents get taken out. A reg sale swipe card. Nothing special.

Did the customer add a tip to the card transaction? Are you required to collect sales tax on services? There would be a fee on these, too, since fees are charged on the total amount authorized on the card, including taxes and tip.
That’s all I can think of. If the total on the check was just $20 with nothing added, you’ll need to contact Square about a bug.

Yes. You get charged fees on the transaction total. That’s not just Square. That’s everyone who processes cards for you. It is the way card processing works world wide. You are charged for the amount of money that is moved around using a card. It’s the cost of taking cards.
