When does the square reader shut down?

Not having any problems at the moment - ours is a simple tap-n-go system, but when does the square reader turn off and how do I know it has? Just need a time-frame, so I know when it needs turning back on if there is a time lag between sales.

The Square Reader will stay connected to your device as long as the app is open and you're processing payments. After closing the app for more a few minutes, or walking away, the reader will disconnect. The quickest way to reconnect it if you've done this is to briefly push the button on your reader to reconnect it to your phone or tablet.
