POS OOS items and Delivery Questions

A couple of questions:

1. Can we toggle off certain items on the POS system? For example- we have the 2020 Red ($20) currently in stock but we had the 2019 Red ($19) until recently, but both show up in the POS. I'd like to make the 2019 hidden so it doesn't get rung up by accident.

2. Is it possible for me to have the On Demand delivery option available throughout the day, but also for customers to be able to choose in house delivery instead? I'd love for customers to have the option to get the wine immediately for a fee, or later for free.

Thanks!

For your first question.  You can’t toggle items off for the POS but you have a couple of options that should do what you want.

  1. If you are not going to ever have the 2019 Red back in stock, then you can just delete the item.  Deleting an item from your library DOES NOT affect previous sales of that item.  All historical transactions will have the item information, even though it is no longer in your active library.
  2. I’m assuming that you don’t have the item assigned to a grid space on your POS.  If you do, it’s as simple as just removing that item from that space.
  3. In my set up, I have entire categories assigned to a grid button, and when that button is pressed a drop-down list of items shows up to select from.  So, you could remove the 2019 Red from that list by just assigning to another category — say “Out Of Stock Items”

To your second questions, it seems that delivery is an Either/Or scenario, and that both is not an option.  That seems like a good feature request, which you can submit to Square here.

I might have a work around, but it would take a little work.  If you aren’t already using the shipping option, you could set up a shipping profile for your in-house delivery, give it a flat fee, and then toggle the shipping option on for the items you want to be available for this delivery method.  My research on this was admittedly not exhaustive, but from what I saw it is a work around that should give you the desired result, and it would also give you the benefit of reports, etc, to show items that have not been “shipped,” as well as history of this “shipping.”  Keep in mind this one thing — customers can NOT mix fulfillment options (pickup, delivery, shipping) on any one order.

Questions or comments are welcome.  Hopefully this will give you what you need.

This is super- many thanks! I thought that deleting an item would affect reporting of previous sales. Very good to know it doesn't!
