We have been using square in our retail location for a while now and have found a handful of much needed updates to the system that would be helpful to everyone.
- It would be great if refunds could be by item, not the amount. When customers are purchasing a handful of items and want to return just one currently you have to calculate the tax for that item, add it to the cost then refund. If you could select the item(s) to refund, and the tax is automatically added it would be so much easier. And when the item is returned it would be great if the item could be added back into your inventory.
- On our dashboard we catagorize all of our items by designer(We sell jewelry, home goods, art, accessories) and in some cases by a grouping such as "bath items". It would be so great if we could add an image to each catagory so it would show up on the dashboard and be much easier to find.
- Another add on that would be great would be the ability to have items in more than one catagory. Such as by the designer and by "bath items" or "Jewelry" etc. We use the square online store and we feel it is hard for our customers to search through it because it is by the designer. It would be so much better for our online purposes if it could be by a secondary catagrory like "Jewelry", "Home goods" "Art" "Accessories"
- In the back end of our dashboard, when adding new items, it would really be great if we could put the item cost in and then the retail price so we can keep track of margins through square. I know there are apps for this but it would be nice if it was all in the dashboard.
Hoping some of these updates could happen in the near future.

I'm going to give this a definite bump. We have over 3500 unique SKUs in our system, and these features would be a HUGE help!

I was just on here looking to see how to add an image to a category, and saw this. We are up to 2500 SKUs in our system and have a lot more to add. These requests would also help us out. I do think the paid version of Square for retail can keep track of profit margins. When we first setup our Square Item library, I did not realize you could only have a picture for the item and not for a variation. So I moved all my variations to individual items (126 scents). Then put the items in there category, 8oz, 16oz, 28oz etc.... but now I want to have say a picture of 5 of the jars as an image for the category for my cashier to see if a price / barcode was damaged or not there for quick reference.
So I agree and would like to see some of these updates

I just found something else out on this....I was using the Square for Retail app on my Ipad, tapped the 3 lines in bottom left-Support-App Walkthrough. Step 5 of 8 (Quick Tiles) How can I make a quick tile for categories like in the App walkthrough? Also when I search on here about Quick Tiles, I found an article from 8-30-2017 that had an image for the category in the example. At first you see it as DR then it says choose Color.... and then it shows a drink in the image. This is for a Category in 2017 and now in 2020 we can not add an image? I do not understand....here is a Link to the mentioned article.

@Candlestore thanks for asking and for sharing that article. The steps for adding category tiles should not have changed. Are you able to search the category when in the "edit item grid" stage and add the tile from there? Also, if your item already has an image, then it should populate in the tile automatically. The drink image, or the emoji, they used in that article can be added if you edit the item itself.
So, say you want to edit your "bacon" item, you can open your tool bar (three horizontal lines), select items, search for "bacon" and edit that item. When editing, you will see a gray box that has "ba" in it, abbreviated for bacon. Tap on that, and then you will see the option to change the background color, add an image, or edit the abbreviation. If you want to edit the abbreviation and add an emoji instead (or with) your new tile, just tap on the "ba" and you can edit it from there.
I hope that makes sense, but definitely let me know if you would like me to clarify more. I'm happy to help! 🙂
