Introducing Square Terminal
Square Terminal is your all-in-one credit card machine for payments and receipts. It’s built from the ground up entirely by Square so you can sell confidently knowing everything just works.
Square Terminal takes every form of payment and is able to print or email receipts, all from one compact, portable device. With an extremely durable construction, it’s built to withstand the busiest checkouts, and it processes chip cards in just two seconds to keep your line moving.
Square Terminal can be used completely cordlessly with Wi-Fi connectivity and a battery designed to last all day. Or use the included accessory hub to connect to Ethernet, or to connect additional accessories like a cash drawer or barcode scanner. Check out a full list of our supported hardware on our Support Center.
Square Terminal is available for purchase here or with financing.

I am a serviceman and work at my customer's home or business. Is the terminal portable? May I use it in the field to accept payments?

sweet. this is a cool option but does look more limited as it is choose from the item library based and not a POS checkout screen like Square POS. the compact nature and built-in printer will be great. glad to see the future proofing with USB-C charging.
do our current custom rates apply as they do on Square register?

Great questions everyone!
@LocavoreStore At this time EBT cards aren't supported with Square, and that includes the new Terminal. If that changes we'll let you know.
@picout1 Bluetooth scanners (and other bluetooth peripherals) aren't supported with the Terminal at this time. But you can connect supported USB scanners instead. For a list of compatible scanners head to our Support Center.
@jeffknouse Yep! The Terminal has a rechargeable battery that will last for about a day's worth of payments. Keep in mind you'll need to connect it to WiFi to process payments, so if you're on the road you could use a WiFi hotspot.
@candlepins Yes it is compatible with Fresh KDS!
@VanKalkerFarms The new Terminal has a different rate: the fee for payments that are swiped, dipped, or tapped is 2.6% + 10c. Manually entered payments are 3.5% + 15c.

Does the terminal use a standard receipt paper roll (like used in a calculator) or is a proprietary paper receipt roll required?

Whoever came up with the idea that payments taken through Register, register on iPad(and android/ipod/iPhone), and terminal should all have different processing fees needs to be fired. You guys are a smart company, but this was a real dodo brained decision. And I know I'll be thanked for my feedback and it'll get passed onto developers, where they'll throw away my comment and go back to drinking their dumdum dodo brain juice.

You also don't have to pay a monthly fee. If you don't process a charge, Square doesn't charge you anything. Nothing is free.

@candlepins, while I do agree with the multitude of pricing options being a problematic area lets, try and have some tact.
yes, it does seem silly to have a .1% difference between terminal and register as it just causes much more confusion and complication to the once simple Square pricing model.

If you're going 50 and above in average ticket sales, then you should be using something other than square.

not necessarily depending on the other contract tier pricing etc and how much processing it often is still cheaper with Square and a whole lot fewer headaches with reward cards etc. also we have custom processing rates with Square for the last 6years or more due to our high average ticket and high volume with 0 chargebacks in 15+ years.

I'm not sure if it can tether to your phone or not, but it seems like it should. @Tom do you know if it can tether to an iphone?

Thanks for surfacing, @VanKalkerFarms. I'm pretty sure this is a "yes" but let me run this by our Hardware Team to be 100% certain. Back with an update ASAP.
