Discount auto-applying to every transaction Square Register!
Help, a discount I created yesterday is auto-applying to EVERY transaction we create in Square Register! Why? We've used the discount feature before, this bug is new.

@abrokenangel Do you have any automatic discount rules set for the discount in question?

I had to delete it, because it was automatically applying the discount to EACH ITEM (not the total purchase) on all purchases that totaled over $12. We were having to manually remove the discounts and didn't catch every one. 😞
Yes, I had automatic discount / discount rules checked applying to every item. Then I had a set schedule, a set date range, and a set minimum spend. How would I properly set a coupon to work at the food trailer for the month of June, Wed-Fri all day, $2 off on any purchase $12 and over? Thanks for any suggestions you can give.
{As others have mentioned, its challenging that discounts and coupons are in two places - Square and Square online. And they have different features. I wanted to create one coupon that would work identically 1. online and 2. when people came to the food trailer, and not only could I not do this, but it became confusing very quickly for myself and my employees. I'm very tech-savvy but because I don't use the feature often, I even had a hard time figuring out which one to delete to keep the issue from happening at the POS.}

@abrokenangel Honestly, I can’t think of any way to do what you want to do AUTOMATICALLY. The sticking point, obviously, is that you can’t apply a maximum discount amount to dollar discounts, only to percentage discounts. If you could do that, you could set the maximum discount amount to $2 and it would work fine. So I’m going to suggest two things.
1) Submit a feature request to Square, asking them to allow maximum discount amount to apply to dollar discounts as well. Go here — https://www.sellercommunity.com/t5/Feature-Requests/ct-p/Beta-Feature-Requests
2) For now, all you can do is create a discount called “2off12.” Then put a shortcut to it on your POS grid for quick access for your employees to add it to the order when the customer qualifies.
Obviously, this is not the solution you are looking for, but it’s the only one that is possible. And, yes, I agree that we need ONLY coupons or discounts, applicable across our entire location. Again, all I can tell you is to submit that as a feature request, also. I checked the current beta test list, and see nothing like this. I’d submit the request and tell Square you’d be more than happy to be part of a beta test group for it!
Best,

I'm new to Square Register/POS. We just used it for credit card processing prior to 7/18/22. I think the stated issue is a problem for me as well but let me restate. I'm trying to do an automatic discount for $10 Off a minimum purchase of $50 (Entire purchase no matter how many items). After creating the discount -- Square once the total sales amount is $50 or more then Square applies the $10 off to each item sold. Instead of giving a max $10 discount it's giving $20 discount if there are two items and $30 off if there are three items and so forth. Is there a solution to this? Thank you.

@txonellcDC Currently, the answer is no. You can NOT have a maximum discount for dollar-discounts, only for percentage-discounts. That is a stated limitation on the discount definition screen. See the circled area in the screen shot for creating discounts, attached. Sorry. To do what you want, for now, you have to create a NON-AUTOMATIC discount, that employees manually add to the check when it should be added.
