Appointments - Classes Beta
Hey folks!
Anyone else considering using the new "Classes" feature in Square Appointments? It's public/active beta right now and there are a few things we'd like to see worked out before we can pull the trigger.
Use Case: We are a Board & Tabletop Game shop and we hold game events with a set number of seats available and also "how to play" classes.
Square Workaround for our tables: we created fake Employees for each play space that can be reserved, giving them appropriate availability for our business hours.
For the most part it looks like most of the Appointments settings are (appropriately) geared for individual Appointments, and it's not always obvious which features just work for Appointments and not Classes.
Items to address:
- Classes don't seem to respect the "no payment required to book" setting. We offer some events free and wouldn't want to ask for a credit card in this case. We also like to allow people to pay at the register when arriving in addition to the prepay option. Again, seems enabled for Appointments but not Classes.
- Sales Tax doesn't seem removable, though I found a work around adding the Category to an exception over in sales tax settings. Most of our classes are not taxable, it would be nice to be able to uncheck the box when creating the class.
- Potential class list management - I created one called "Test" and I can't remove it! That list is going to get long and hard to read.
- Waitlist - kind of a killer feature for us when we have a high-demand class. Is this working for Classes?
Nice to Have:
- In Square for Retail we can make an Item with the type of "Event". It even has start and end times. It would be slick if I could just link to that product as the class, or some kind of meaningful integration between the two concepts.
- We use a web calendar to show all events at our shop (many of which require no booking). Deep linking from there to a class's specific reservation booking page already works, but a feature we would miss from the competitor product (Acuity) is the ability to generate a link that shows all Classes in a specific grouping, rather than "all of the classes in the future" or "just the one class".
