Pre-order for Thanksgiving...

Okay.  We are a pie shop.  Our Superbowl season is coming up with Thanksgiving.  We have our primary pick up days the Tuesday and Wednesday prior to the big day. Is there any way in the Weebly system that square uses for its base online system.  Is there any way to limit the thanksgiving orders to just those days and certain times without changing our other online ordering?

Thanks for posting, @HumblePies and welcome back to the Community 😊

It looks like this is still a (very) popular feature request. I haven't heard of any recent updates, but I'll see if I can get some more information from the team fo you all.

Yes, you could definitely set it up this way 😊

Well, we can't. I'm suggesting this as a new feature that isn't available. Could you pass that on to the team who adds features?

Hey there @LinWoodSweets 👋

I will definitely pass this feature request to our product team! Thanks for taking the time to share your need for something like this.

One option you have available is to use the new custom pickup and delivery timing feature. More details here on how to set this up. This feature allows you to turn off the automatically calculated pickup date and time for a location, and replace it with a custom message of your choice. For example, you could add a location to your site called 'Thanksgiving Preorders', and then use the custom pickup and delivery timing feature to show a message that says "Please pick up your items on November 24 between 9am-4pm".

Ah, thanks for the input @faheem! This sounded great, however, the stumbling block for most people (including myself) will be creating a second location. That seems like quite the confusing hassle, let alone i'm not sure how the customers will react to it on the frontend. Seems like it would be a bit confusing if you have 2 locations.

Thanks! I hope to see the feature item specific soon!e

Agreed! There should be an option for us to be able to sell an item for a specific date only. Plain and simple. Deactivating on my location the pickup and delivery time would be a huge mess for my restaurant.

I agree.  Setting up a second location to enable pre-orders of pies for Thanksgiving sounds like a Rube Goldberg way of doing it.  I'm looking for a more elegant solution.

We have this problem with our custom cake orders! For a long time I used a second location but the above commenters are totally right, it was a solution that added a lot of complexity and confusion to our process and led to missed orders and mistakes.

Now I use a specific item for custom cakes with a bunch of modifiers for flavor, etc, and I set it so they have to give us a week’s notice. It feels very flimsy but so far so good

We would love this feature also! The way we approach it is by setting a separate Thanksgiving catering page and making each pick up day (Tues and Wed) an "item" for .01. We stress to the customer they much add that item (the pick up day) to their cart. We have about a 98% success rate, there will always be a small few you will have to follow up with an email to ask them whast day they want to pick up. Another work around could be to make a new item ie Pumpkin Pie with 2 variations, Pick up Tues & Pick up Wed. I think it is helpful that these are on a separate page than the rest of your normal menu to help get the point across when they are available ie for Thanksgiving Catering only. You can check out how we work around the system on our page here:

hope these ideas help!https://verdine-houston.square.site/thanksgiving

We previously replied to a different thread that addresses this issue. I'll attempt to explain it here. Firstly, we are Micro or Cottage Bakery in Cary NC. We have requested a feature update to achieve what you all are asking for. There is in fact, a Beta Test going on that “May” address your issues, but I could not get enough info on it as Square Technical Support personnel know nothing about it. We don’t love this work around, but it’s working enough to limp us through Thanksgiving. (Best to call Tech Support to walk you through this). We created a “New Location” which is actually the same location where our customers pickup product. We just changed the name of this new location and added Thanksgiving or Holiday Orders to the location name. Now, you go to fulfillment and select pickup or delivery option. Then you can set your business hours to reflect the day(s) you want your pre-orders picked up, but you will have to achieve this by selecting “Restrict dates”. By restricting all days you don’t want for pickup, for example, you’ll end up with your future pickup date, IE the Tuesday before Thanksgiving as the customers only option. That’s what appears in their confirmation email as well. Before I forget, once your new location is set up, add items to that new location. Now when your customers visit your online store, they will have to select which location they are pre-ordering for. If one is your menu location for weekly or daily sales and the other is for the holiday they will have to check out separately. This is not the best part but your customers will get used to it as long as you name the location obviously so they know which one to pick. Lastly, if you want to turn off one location for sometime but leave the other running, or live, simply go to fulfillment of the location you want off line, and remove the option for pick up or delivery. You will see once you do that it will say that that location needs to be “set up again“. That’s no problem, when you want it back on, you click the toggle and set it up, select your options for pickup or delivery, and you’re off to the races again. Hope this helps!

This needs to happen ASAP!  This has been an issue for years now.

We end ed d up using OrderNova again, just like last year.  We put a Thanksgiving button on our site that went to OrderNova site. You can actually get a report of what's ordered for each day and a report to use for pickups.  Unfortunately it only works with Stripe, so only use it for Thanksgiving
