On the dine-in map where it shows our table layout for table side orders, I created a section named ‘ToGo’ and placed 7 tables under it and another section named ‘Phone Order’ and placed another 7 tables under it. When a customer calls to place an order, we select one of the ‘Phone Order’ tables and add the order there along with the customers names. On the kitchen KDS and printer it shows up as ‘Phone Order Eddie’. On the POS the order stays there as an open ticket until the customer shows up to pickup and pays for the order. Same flow for counter Togo orders.

@kristag, count us in! The #1 issue since we have with order workflow is not being able to assign a scheduled time to checks, hopefully this fixes that. We don't use table setups like @RoniM, but we do use open checks for call-in/phone orders. We always quote pickup times (we're a pizzeria) and we just end up putting the time in the notes. This is all fairly complicated for the team, though, because sometimes people want to pay over the phone and then the ticket isn't traceable on the POS unless you go digging through transactions. It's just not intuitive, but there have been big improvements with the POS redesign and Ordering betas.

 

The tickets/checks entered this way also immediately show on the KDS regardless of when they are actually for. We get a lot of advance orders for days or weeks ahead of time and they just languish on the KDS front screen taking up space. It's the main reason we haven't switched our kitchen to KDS displays only and only use one as an expeditor station up front.

 

I feel like this would be a fairly easy thing to do, like the "Notify when ready" function, just add a "Schedule check" function that allows us to attach a time and captures additional information, and makes it follow a different workflow showing under Orders.

Orders disappearing once they’re paid before they’re ready and orders just sitting on KDS are both issues we deal with as well.

Interest in being involved. Recently starting using Square for restaurant at one of our sites. We currently have eposnow and icrtouch across our other sites, definitely a lot of features from both systems that could be deployed on Square for restaurants to help improve workflows and UI/UX.

Hi @kristag , we have a Takeaway only fish and chip shop in Australia, We run phone, in person and online orders through Square.

We also use Grubbrr for our self serve kiosk, im hoping Square Kiosk opens up soon in Australia so we can use the order manager for our Kiosk too. Happy to chat further if you can make some time to chat.
