Square kitchen display + Square point of sale

hi there,
 It should be really great to have the option of square kitchen display for square point of sale.

square kitchen display is the only kitchen screen works well and reliable, but in our case, square for restaurant is just not adapted and flexible enough for our take away business.

In what way, what is it that doesn’t doesn’t work out? 

I *think* that the KDS will still work even if you use the regular app, but you’d still need the Resturant subscription.

So are you saying if we are using the square for retail pos and also subscribe to the restaurant 

pos, we should be able to see orders appear in kds from retail pos?

I don’t know for square for retail, but for square point of sales, yes, it works, if you have the subscription square restaurant, the KDS works very well with point of sales.

Hi @Dirky, at the moment, Square KDS will only connects and populate orders from the Square for Restaurant app, Square Point of Sale and our Online site. It does not work with the Square for Retail app at the moment I'm afraid.

What is my best option for displaying orders in the kitchen/bar, where we makeup the drinks?

Bartenders are outside taking orders with Square retail but the staff inside and upstairs need to see the orders coming in. Both via POS and via self-serve.

I think the self serve orders will appear on the POS upstairs (assuming we have one setup) on the 'Orders' page but what about the orders taken on POS?

I think this is the final part of the puzzle for us switching from Shopify to Square.

Hey @Dirky, sorry I only got around to replying now, I was out yesterday!

From what you describe, I think the standard Square Point of Sale or the Square for Restaurant app (free or Plus) will be the better fit in this case, rather than the Square for Retail app.

With the standard Point of Sale & Restaurant app, you can save an order as an Open Ticket. Open Ticket can be view and manage across all Point of Sale device so staffs at the bar and in the kitchen will be able to check the orders by clicking into Tickets within the Point of Sale app.

Alternatively, do you have any printer at the bar or kitchen by any chance? You can also set it up so orders can be send and print at different stations or area.

At the moment, the ability to use Square KDS is tied to a Square for Restaurant subscription but we are looking to roll this our more broadly so that it can be an independent software. While I don't have a timeline or launch date to share just yet, I'll be sure to update this thread when I have more information when this will be available.
