Hi Seller Community,
Have questions about the Orders section on your Point of Sale or online Square Dashboard? Our product team wants to hear from you!
I'm thrilled to introduce you to @chada and @Aaron_Product, whose teams focus on order management. Whether you're set up with Square Point of Sale, Square for Retail, Square for Restaurants, or Square Online, this is an opportunity for you to ask questions and share feedback on the order managerโs role in managing your business, notifying you of new or updated orders, printing order tickets, or providing settings for configuring your order-specific workflows.
Post your questions to this thread ahead of time and check back with us on Wednesday, June 29, at 11 a.m. PDT/2 p.m. EDT when their team responds.
A few example questions:
- What are the latest feature improvements that will help me better manage orders with Square Online?
- If Square Order Manager could support "_______," the day-to-day operations at my restaurant would run so much smoother.
- I keep running into "_______" every time an order comes through at my retail store. What's the best practice for addressing this?
- What plans do you have for allowing me to configure Order Manager to suit the specific workflows of my business?
- Do you have any plans to improve the onboarding experience to Order Manager for new sellers or employees?
Note: We are not able to share specific details on our product roadmaps, though this information will be helpful as we continue to make improvements.
Click Reply below to post a question ahead of time, and weโll address as many posts as we can on Wednesday, June 29.๐

Re: Meet the Order Manager product team: Which workflows are most critical to managing orders? ๐จ๐งพ

Hello everyone!
The time for receiving new questions has closed for this event. Thank you to everyone who asked questions and shared their experiences โ we received a lot of helpful feedback!
The Order Manager team will continue to address your posts as they are able. Due to the high volume of interest across all of our forums, it may take a few days to follow up on remaining inquires. We appreciate your patience and please keep watch for updates throughout the end of the week and early next week. ๐๐ป
Hello Everyone,
Thanks so much to all of you who took the time to share your questions and feedback with us! We were impressed with the level of engagement we received and were excited to see so much interest in this topic.
We hope your questions were answeredโthe experiences you've shared will help us as we continue to enhance Squareโs Order Manager based on your feedback.
As we wrap up this event, we wanted to recap the main themes that we observed across all the feedback:
More personalization options for order management workflows and printing
Some sellers operate off of only printed tickets, while others want to be able to complete an order after it arrives with a single button press. Some sellers want to complete bulk actions with minimal screen interactions. We are kicking off new discovery next month around the most common ways sellers want to personalize their workflows so we can meet you where your business is to enable Order Manager to become a lever in your business growth plan. We will be reaching out to all sellers who raised this topic to better understand the most important ways you want to personalize your order management experience to optimize your workflows in a way that suits your specific business needs.
Editing orders after they have been paid and received
We understand that you have the ability to change the order after it appears in POS. In-store situations demand a change in the orderโSituations such as selling out an item or having a customer call and request a change. We are working on enabling this capability for our order partners (including Square Online), such that the buyer is also made aware of the change. Please keep in mind that adoption will be dependent on the order partner (i.e. Doordash will have to enable this ability as well). We hope to have that out to you in the near future.
Customizing order and fulfillment settings on your Square Online site
We are working to centralize the fulfillment settings that apply to both your Square Online orders as well as any orders that are created through 3rd party apps and to expose those settings to developers via a public API so all orders are set with the correct fulfillment details. This will ensure that the same settings are adhered to no matter which channel your orders are placed so you can standardize your operations and deliver consistent service to all your customers.
Creating orders with fulfillments at POS
Sellers want to create orders with fulfillments like Delivery or Pickup at the POS. We heard you loud and clear that this is a gap you want filled and we are exploring ways to support this capability in the future so you can offer the same great service to your customers, no matter how they order from you.
Again, thanks for your participation. For the latest updates, keep watch for announcements of new features in Product Updates.
Thanks,
Aaron, Chada and Christian
I am a fast food takeout that takes phone orders a lot. Will there be or is there any way to take down delivery orders manually. I would be taking address down and food order. Is there a way to make it where it can reject an address out of my range. I currently use Square POS and save my orders as open tickets. Does Square for Restaurants have what I need in this sense.

Hi @PaquitosNYC,
Creating delivery orders from Point of Sale is currently not available in any of our point of sale options, but we are looking into enabling it. Please do keep watch for updates.

I would love to run a report that shows my orders by type (digital vs. product) and region. Ideally region would be broken down by state and city. And of course, this report would show me all my metrics.

Hello @Popi, thanks for your feedback! We're aware of the need to have additional reporting features, especially around order and fulfillment type. Could you further describe what metrics and reporting breakdowns you would like to see?

We would like to have the ability to create assign different printers/print settings depending on order type: delivery, pick up, curbside, etc. To be more specific, we would to have an extra alert/receipt whenever the customers orders curbside so that we know that they will be outside waiting for us, instead of us just bagging it and waiting for them to come in and pick it up. Thank you

We are exploring ways to offer more customization around printer settings in the future. We hear you loud and clear that fulfillment type is one way in which you want to customize your print settings and workflow. Also, there is a notification available to alert you when a customer has arrived for a curbside pickup: Settings > Orders > Order Notifications > Allow curbside arrival notifications.

I am a writer. My books are primarily sold as ebooks. I would love for people to be able to order my book on my website or in person with my Square terminal and have it delivered to them forthwith.
Currently, the process to deliver the ebook file is completely manual from collecting the customer's email address to sitting down and emailing the ebook file to them. This becomes onerous from the get go. Especially when I am traveling and do not have my primary computer with me.
Can Square offer assistance or at least instructions on how to automate the delivery of digital goods?

Hi @W_D_Richards, thanks for taking the time to share your experience.
Unfortunately, automated delivery of digital goods isnโt supported today, but this feature request is under consideration on our roadmap.
If you would like early access to this feature when available, please let us know. I have a few workarounds to suggest for now:
First, if you only sell one digital item, you can customize your order confirmation emails to include a download link (see here for more information about customization: https://squareup.com/help/us/en/article/6889-customize-store-emails-with-square-online-store).
Second, you can use one of our app marketplace offerings like Integromat or Zapier to build an automated workflow that will send digital items for you (hereโs our app marketplace: https://squareup.com/us/en/app-marketplace).

We would like the ability to pre-authorize for let's say 5-10%+ on top of final online transitions. In addition to this, provide the ability to modify weighted items in-store and provide 100% accurate pricing on "final" transaction. Example: A fish market sales salmon for $15 / lb. Customer orders 2x $15 / lb and pays $30. When they pick up product actual weight is 2.2 lb vs 2.0 lb. The ability to adjust that line item and charge the 2.2 lb would be great. It seems like the community overall is looking to update specific items after transaction is complete. This would open up a lot of opportunity to business that sale weighted items.

It sounds like you would like to take a pre-auth on an order and then adjust the cart before finalizing and settling the order. We are currently working on this functionality and will be launching a limited beta for RST POS sellers first with plans to expand to SPOS.

As a Fashion Designer, I want to know how Square can help me. Periodically I would liike to run promotional orders on custom made items where customer can come and request the item and pay for it during the promotion period. I haven't really figured out how to configure Square to work for what I need it to do as a Designer. I guess my question is: How can Square be of use to Fashion Designers who make custom made designs for sell.

Which aspects of the customized design sales process would you like supported through Square? Collecting payment for an item that isn't part of your normal catalog? Paying for an item before it is fulfilled? If you can provide some more specifics around the steps of your custom design sales process that you find challenging we will try to see if there is a solution for you available with our current offerings.

Can you please tell me more about how this would work? I would guess you would either want to get a deposit or a payment authorization on the order and then that order might change based on any last minute construction changes?

I would like the ability to do a sale without going into each item and putting a sale price and without having to use a coupon. So if I have a particular category I would like to put on sale, I have variations for some of my products and I want the ability to be able to put the sale as a whole for each of my products I canโt do that now without a coupon so basically I wanted the ability to put my products on sale without using a coupon but divide up the different categories so letโs say I want a category just for my resins To go on sale but I donโt want everything else on cell in my other categories. Etsy gives you this ability to do this you donโt while I donโt like being with Etsy because their fees are very high I really would like to be able to do this with square

Yes, it's possible to create a discount once and apply it to a product category. This 2 min video has a walkthrough on how to do the same: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXqGOTdvpcc

You can run and Item Sales report in Reports but thereโs nothing around shipping address/fulfillment address. Can you explain why thatโs important to you?
