Happy New Year, Sellers!
On Tuesday, January 18th, our Device Experience team hosted a Q&A focused on sellers' needs with device monitoring. Topics covered related to: Square Card Readers, Square Stand, Square Register, Square Terminal, printers, scales, scanners, and cash drawers.
We've got exciting plans this year that will help you monitor device connectivity, battery status, and logins from a single hub within the online Square Dashboard. We can't share out specific details on our product roadmaps, though we will certainly make sure all of the feedback that came through on this thread is incorporated into the decision making process.

Hello Everyone,
Thank you again for taking the time to weigh in with your questions and feedback! The experiences you shared will help us as we continue to iterate going forward. As we close out this thread, we wanted to do a recap on the themes that came up frequently:
- Device Monitoring and Management - Sellers want to view information like device ID, connectivity status, software version history, upcoming hardware launches, and information on outdated hardware. They would also like to configure network settings and update app versions remotely. There was also feedback on making these features available on mobile in addition to the online Square Dashboard on desktop.
- Peripheral Support - Sellers asked for new peripheral support such as external keyboard, mouse, stylus pen, as well as additional cost effective printer brands and support for desktop printers from Point of Sale. Sellers who are set up with Square for Restaurants asked for integration with temperature monitoring systems in their kitchen.
- Remarkable Device Experience - Sellers asked for multiple device support on card readers, network enabled communications, and recommending wifi boosters when internet connection is consistently poor.
- Hardware Feature Enhancement - Ability to extend screen timeout and ability to insert card face up and down on Register, iPad pro support on Stand, and a line busting app on Square Terminal.
We did receive a variety of questions and feedback on Square for Retail, Appointments, and Square for Restaurants apps โ as well as feature requests for inventory and order management. If you asked for a feature that does not exist today or identified issues, we passed along your feedback internally to the respective product teams. We take seller feedback very seriously and are assessing feasibility and priority.
For those of you who are having device issues including battery issues, please contact the Customer Success team.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences and we'll continue to make improvements based on your business needs. For the latest updates, subscribe to Product Updates and you'll receive notifications of our newest features.
We'll take this into consideration!

When we receive orders online if a customer opts to take something off of there order (minus onions) It does not come in on order tickets. So all it says is ( Steak Potato , Onions) in actuality it should say (Steak potato, -onions). Please fix this

Hi @BlissHair, This is not the expected experience. Sounds like a potential issue with your cable, so please check that there isn't a loose connection. Contact Square support if you continue to have issues.

Hi Tom, is there any news on a launch date for integrated scales in the UK? We've been promised them for a long time but are still waiting and it is functionality that would be a massive help to us. Thanks. Tom
Hi @filletandbone We are working on getting scales certified in the UK and hoping to launch support soon.
Hi, simple question here - can I upgrade my iPad to iOS 15 yet as I've heard there were problems connecting to accessories via the Square Stand?

@Valleycraft I have upgraded all my ipads to I think 15.2...I am like you I skip the first time it launched but upgraded at the first patch. I always make sure to update the square app also when I update the iOS to make sure they are both latest. I haven't had any problems and I have 7 or 8 ipads of varying years.

My card reader has a problem connecting to my different devices. Sometimes I use my iPhone if I forget my iPad for an appointment and I connect it to my iPhone. Then, next time I use my iPad, I have to go in and forget the device and reconnect it.

Hi @iQuilt4U, Thanks for reaching out. Square card readers support one device at a time. If you are using multiple devices with the reader, you will have to forget and pair the reader again. Good feedback though. We will investigate if there are opportunities to support multiple devices without having to re-pair.

I would really love to also use the invoicing feature, but I charge in 1/2 cent increments and square doesnโt allow that.
for example, if a quilt is 100x100 my charge is $0.025/square inch. I donโt want to manually calculate it and possibly make a mistake and miss out of money or over charge my customer.

I use the square for retail on the square register. I recently upgraded to the register from the stand and some things are frustrating in the difference.
The 10min screen timeout is ridiculous. Please extend that option to at least an hour or something like, until I turn it off. Sometimes the screen times out and it's a devil of a time getting it to come back on. I had to completely reboot yesterday to get the screen back. This happens very frequently.
Please give us ability to turn off passcodes. Since I don't use the payroll function. It's annoying to have to enter that **bleep** code. There's no way to just remove it.
Someone asked for the ability of adding a USB or Bluetooth keyboard. I would love that. It's a pita to type on the screen, especially if you want to quickly add a new item or adjust pricing/add inventory, at the terminal.
I miss the option to have a grid cashier screen like on the standard version. The scrolling list is cumbersome and limited. Not sure why you took that away from the retail version. It has made the transition difficult for us. Takes longer to check people out even using our barcode scanner.
Someone mentioned the ability to connect with a network for printing on a standard printer. So I don't have to always use my laptop to print out a quick report.
Speaking of reports, I like the newer ability to sort info in a variety of ways. I wish there was a better way to view reports on screen and instead of showing individual tax amt on each item, show the fees charged for each item. I have to guess unless I go look at each individual transaction. I have no use for breaking down taxes that far but fees per item sold I do. I don't pass on that fee but I do like keeping up with it so I can adjust pricing more easily when needed.
Unless there's already a report option I haven't figured out.
I found an easy solution for passcodes are if you have a barcode scanner connected. Just pull scan trigger that wakes the system then tap on field for you passcode and scan your passcode barcode.
note : the lanyard you would keep around your neck to identify you as an employee would have a barcode on the back of it. This barcode would be the passcode. you can convert the passcode into a barcode then print it onto a sticker to stick on the lanyard backside.
I hope this little tip helps

Ok I figured out why I was frustrated on the register set up. Thank you
As to reports - I would like to be able to run a report that shows the processing fee per category, or item, without having to trudge through individual transactions.
Something like
Item Category Gross Sales Refunds Discounts Net Sales Square Fees
.
Unless I'm missing it, I don't see a way to configure columns to what I want to see and hide things I don't need on a printed report

I would like to be able to choose where to start printing labels that are made after receiving retail items. Otherwise you would waste an entire sheet of labels if you only want to print a few labels. Is there a fix in the works for this?(Avery 5160 Labels)
