Hello Seller Community! On July 22nd from 10:00 – 11:00am PT, we hosted a Q&A within this thread where Square Online sellers had the opportunity to post about improvements they'd like to see with regard to features and services.
@Justin_N is a product specialist with the Square Online team and @AdamB is a community manager with extensive Square Online product experience. Together, they lead the session focused on how we can improve Square Online features. Learn more about Square Online.
We would love to know more about sellers' experiences with:
- Tasks related to Square Online which take you way too much time to complete.
- Tasks related to your online business which you simply cannot complete today with Square Online.
We will summarize your questions and responses about your “tasks” in a follow-up post soon!
Note on account-specific questions: For your privacy and security, we are not able to address issues related to specific account status details in our public forums. If you need account assistance, please contact our Customer Success team and they'll be able to take a deeper dive.

Hello Everyone,
Thanks again to all who shared their experiences and to @Justin_N for your time over the last week!
We heard from a wide variety of Square Online sellers who pointed out areas where we can make day-to-day tasks easier.
We were able to answer most of the questions posted throughout this week, though we will follow up with a handful of more sellers over the next few days to be sure that we get as much insight as possible to the teams within Square.
To summarize, we saw a lot of questions about ways to improve ordering & shipping, as well as themes related to inventory & reporting that would aim to streamline your decision making. We also heard great points about important improvements to Square’s ecosystem of products like surfacing Online Store settings in your POS and ensuring that the Online Store honors item settings like fractional quantities.
For the latest with Square Online, be sure to check back to this page: squareup.com/us/en/online-store.
Finally, for anyone who is reading this and is interested in Square for Restaurants, be sure to check out yesterday's Q&A with their team: Square for Restaurants: Ask a product manager anything!

Hey there, @Cjonesfly and @GWTS!
I just wanted to jump in here and reiterate @AdamB's second point, that Square Online recently added this ability for you to choose to automatically hide items when they go out of stock. This was a feature request we heard quite a bit about through multiple channels (including Community), and in my eyes it’s a great example of what can be accomplished when there exists a great partnership between Square and our sellers!

Im a high end hair stylist and use the appt booking system and would love to have the Deposit feature added to it. ive been using square for a few years and have asked about this feature and have been told a request has been put in numerous times. When will this be available? This is a great feature to secure appts and time and reduces no shows.
2. i also sale ebooks and offer training videos ...will there be a way to allow customers to buy the ebooks and download them as well as a way to embed videos on the site so clients can pay for the training to watch for a time frame that we allow the video to be watched?

Thanks for joining us, @Hisinfinityunit! I can’t speak to the deposit feature for Appointments other than to say we’ll be sure to pass your feedback to that team.
With regards to automatically downloadable digital items, you are heard! The pain around having to manually deliver digital goods is something that we’ve heard a lot about and we’re looking forward to making that experience much better. I’m curious to hear your take on the ideal experience of purchasing a digital product from you via Square Online.
Thanks again!

You Can Improve Square Online By Having A “Square Online For Food Trucks”.
Take Food Truck And Other Mobil Businesses Into Consideration By Having A Category Designated For Our Specific Needs Calling It Square For Food Trucks Or At The Very Least Either Posting A Help Section With Work Arounds To Existing Procedures And New Roll Outs
Here Are A Couple Items That Pose Real Issues For Food Trucks
Problem - Pick Up Location, Day & Date
- Pick Up Location - Since The Inception Of Weebly An Address Is Required To Offer Online Ordering. Food Trucks Are In A Different Location Every Day. I Can Only Put One Address/Location At A Time And Often The System Does Not Like The Address I Want (It Has To Match A Legit Business - But I May Be Parked In A Field! Or In A Subdivision But It Will Not Let Me Enter The Sub's Name).
- Pick Up Day & Date - There Is Only One Week Available To Input My Online Hours Without Any Dates Listed. For The Last Couple Of Weeks If I Do Get An Online Order, It Is For A Future Date.
My Solutions
- My Dream - What Would Really Make Me Happy Would Be To Integrate A Calendar So That My Online Ordering Would Coincide With The Dates Address/Locations I Have Listed On My Google Event Calendar. Then The Location Date And Time Would Automatically Populate When A Customer Picks A Date And Time For Their Order
- 2nd Choice - But Only Until You Could Make My Dream Come True -
- Offer A Link Within The Square Reports Menu On The Register App (Using Square On Ipad Stand) That Allows Us To Check Or Change The Address And Date Being Offered To Our Customer's
- Give Us A Customizable Input Section Within The Address That We Can Use Without Having To Match The Postal System
- Let Us Save The Addresses To Reuse | They Could Populate With A Drop Down Where The First Selection Is A New Entry And The Rest Of The Selections In The Drop Down Would Be Older Entrees We Chose To Save By Nickname
- Offer At Least Two Weeks Of Days With A Corresponding Dates To Enter Our Hours So We Are Confident We Are Entering Correct Information.
- Even Better 2nd Choice -
Combine The Day & Date With The Drop Down Address So We Can Enter Both Manually And Only Have To Update It Once Per Week.
Along With Combine The Day, Date And Drop-Down Addresses
- Offer A Link Within The Square Reports Menu On The Register App (Using Square On Ipad Stand) That Allows Us To Check Or Change The Address And Date Being Offered To Our Customer's
- Give Us A Line On The Address That We Can Customize Without Having To Match The Postal System
Problem – Food Trucks Do Not Have Consistent Access To Electricity Or Wifi To Use A Router
We Want Access To The Cool Stuff Offered With Square Register For Restaurants
- Need For A Credit Card Machine
- Ability For Customer To Verify We Have Rung Their Order Accurately (I Know This Part Is Already Available)
- Ability To See The Tip Screen And Add Tip On The Attachment
- See Loyalty Screen So They Dont Have To Say Their Phone Number Out Loud
- Swipe, Dip Or Tap On It Touch Free For Us
Solution – Program The Square Reader To Link Via Usb To The Square Stands Usb Hub
Problem – The Way An Item Is Displayed Online Is How It Prints
Solution – Have An Input Line On The Programming For Each Item In The Library That Allows Us To Input An Abbreviation For Our Own Use That Prints On The Kitchen Order Ticket The Benefit Would Be Less Printer Paper Used And The Tickets Would Be Easier To Read
Problem – The Order That Items Are Rung On The Ipad Is The Same As They Print
Solution – Program The Ipad So That When You Hit Charge It Refreshes The Screen And Re Organizes The Items Rung By Their Category Or Fire Order And Then In Turn Will Print The New Organized Way Making It Easier/Faster To Get The Orders Out To The Customers

Hello again and welcome, @GWTS!
Thank you so much for this detailed rundown of the major points of friction when operating a food truck using Square! I was hoping we'd get some feedback from food trucks today and this feedback is excellent!
It’s clear that there are fundamentally different operating behaviors for food trucks that will need to be addressed in tandem in order to improve the experience. I’m all ears if you have anything further to share here, especially when it comes to your dreams of how Square could best work with your business. Thank you again for your time and insight!!

AS A FOOD TRUCK - I WOULD LIKE THE ABILITY TO MARK ITEMS AS OUT OF STOCK UNTIL CLOSE OF BUSINESS AND HAVE THEM RESET TO AVAILABLE THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY.
I DO NOT USE THE INVENTORY DUE TO THE FACT IT IS JUST ME AND MY HUSBAND AND WE SHOP FOR PRODUCT EVERY DAY. IT WOULD BE TOO CUMBERSOME TO ENTER ALL THAT INFORMATION.
MAYBE IF I OPT OUT OF USING INVENTORY IT WOULD AUTOMATICALLY PUT ITEMS BACK IN STOCK AT CLOSE OF BUSINESS

Hello,
My main request would be to have installments available to customers. A lot of my products are higher dollar automotive parts that a lot of people can't always dump the money for all at once. Having your own installment program or even being able to integrate a 3rd party installment company would be awesome.
This would completely ramp up my sales!

You can definitely do installments thru square invoicing, so if you invoiced those clients, you could do it.

Most of my sales are from my posted items in my store. I have done a few invoices though. I have never seen an option for installments. How would I get this?
It would be even better if installments were an option at checkout through my store.

Thanks for being with us, @BerryPerfSales!
We hear you loud and clear on the importance of installments / “Buy Now, Pay Later” (BNPL) to enable buyers to purchase items when, without it, they’d be more-likely to abandon the cart.
My question here is, of the available BNPL providers, do you have a preference? If yes, why?

Thanks for responding, Justin.
From the research I have done, It seems like Sezzle is the most popular with small businesses. But, I would be open to work with any provider.

Bring back the yearly sales comparison in percentage terms on the dashboard. This was useful in instantly comparing sale from a year ago against current day sales.

Hey @Clintonn, thanks for bringing this up. To be sure we're on the same page, are you referring to the Sales Trends section of the online Square Dashboard? From there, you can view year over year percentage comparisons in the "Yearly Gross Sales" section (scroll all the way to the bottom of the page). Hope that helps, though if I'm missing the mark, please reply with a bit more information and we'll be happy to take a closer look!

I belong to a large group of independent quilt shops - many of whom are considering using Square Online for their E-commerce stores. Many of us use Square in our shops / face to face selling and it works well. We have the ability to sell portions of a yard of fabric (.25, .5, .75, etc.). The problem we are having is that we do not have that same incremental functionality in Square Online as we do in Square. We'd really like to have this specific functionality added - and it would result in more Quilt Shops moving to the Square Online platform.

Hello @Quiltblox -- thank you for joining us today!
There have been multiple comments today about the need for Square Online to enable fractional quantity purchasing, and it's clear to me that this is an extremely high-friction pain point for those of you who need this feature. My message back to the team will be that this is important work to prioritize. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with us!

Hi Tameran from Positive Outlook Grooming. I want to know if we have the option to setup subscriptions and payment plans for our customers? If so, is there a guide we can use to make the setup seamless. Thanks 😊

Hello @Pobeardcare! Thanks for joining us today!
There are two ways you can go about setting up subscriptions / recurring payments today:
- Process Recurring or Subscription Payments with Square Invoices
- Subscription Payments with Square Online Checkout Links
Which one to use will really depend on some of the specifics of your business, so I'd suggest taking a look at each product and seeing which one works best!
