Unfortunately our name is our Last name, which in some way's is nice tying our family to our business since 1961, but It is a problem for SEO as people have to guess how to spell it or even remember it.  If I could I'd love a rebrand to something like Garden and Yard or Rosemary Roots.

When my wife first started her yarn dyeing business I had some business cards printed, however she didn’t like the name I had chosen. Oh well, I thought, I’ve only got 250! She was relating this to a friend and said “Being an ungrateful wench, I had to tell him I didn’t like them” Her friend said “That would be a good name”. We both agreed so I bought the domain name www.theungratefulwench.co.uk which now redirects to her Square domain address. ( and got new cards printed! ).

Well.. we are located in Amityville, NY- home of the famous Amityville Horror. Amityville has world wide recognition so we knew we wanted to have Amityville in the name. Apothecary is an old fashioned pharmacy- we knew we wanted to offer spiritual "medicine" .. so our tagline is remedies for mind, body, and soul.

Our bookshop is The Athenaeum at Amityville Apothecary. Athenaeum happens to be another name for Library- so it was a no brainer

My Roasterie name came from a need to differentiate my cafe from my wholesale coffee roasting business, which was picking up steam. I went through a couple of ideas, none really stuck.

One day, I was in my cafe's dining room after close, working on my computer. You know that feeling when you're focused on something but you can tell something else has changed? I had that feeling. A big thunderstorm was overhead, and the setting sun made it under the clouds. Everything in the cafe was bathed in this golden light. I went outside to rainbow hunt, and the tree behind the cafe had this mesmerizing golden glow. And Golden Pine Roasters was born. 🙂

I didn't want to use our name or any variation of it.  I wanted our name to describe what we do.  I also knew from the beginning the logo and all of our marketing had to match.  Our company name is Arctic Heat - we do heating and air conditioning.  I knew the hot had to be cold and the cold had to be hot.  So Arctic is red and orange and covered in flames.  Heat is blue and frozen under ice.  I wanted a name that would be catchy and describe what we do while being a play on words.  Only bad part is that a lot of people still get it wrong because they don't actually read lol... I get Artic or Heating or Heating and Air... I've had all kinds of combinations.  The best part about those who do remember us is our first radio commercial back in 2018.  We made fun of the work Arctic because no one spells it correctly - Artic is not a word.  We wanted to make sure people knew it was Arctic... so there was this joke in our commercial that was the announcer repeating our name in a funny way.  People would walk up to us and say "Arctic, Arctic, Arctic" over and over again.
