We love the pick and choose services as well, and, in fact, if new managed billing works out for our customer billings for membership all of our services will be through Square. I had been using "paid for" POS systems for a long time with the terrible terminal leases, receipt supplies, batching out daily, all of that nonsense. Square makes an easy-to-use, easy-to-log-in, and manage product, and we've even switched over our website. We couldn't be happier to be honest.

I chose Square because I am a small one woman operation and the device that plugs into the cell phone was just too convenient for me not to try. So far its been great! AND with a phone call, I was able to accept health savings account payments via card which is relevant to my business as a mental health therapist. Love You Guys!

Because Paypal was becoming a burden on my company's growth.
I switched over to Square and stand because of all the integrated features like Payroll and Rewards.

Just tired of paying $275 on a $4500 sale with a bank card processing equipment.  Insane! You always have to have the equipments charged to process just one transaction. Waste of electricity. And you never know when charges will be hitting your account so does not allow for accurate accounting. Rate vary soo much you almost had to throw a dart at what rate is coming next!.

Had heard good things from others who use it. Deciding factor was in 2018 when I was selling my artwork in artist alley at New York ComicCon, and Paypal (which I'd been using til then) decided it was not going to work at all on either my phone or ipad for sales. Signed up for Square, and was able to borrow a card swiper from a friend. Had my point of sale up and running in 30 minutes and have been using Square since.

On the surface, I chose Square because of its ease of use, fantastic UI/UX, and broad list of compatible devices.

Below the surface, clear processing fees remain the same despite which card customers use, no contracts, no monthly minimum fees, no device rental fees, access to backend data, and the way it is presented, and now Square Capital. Almost forgot, instant deposits and Square checking now. It just keeps getting better.

Much of the industry is TRYING to catch up to you, like Clover, but they aren't doing a well enough job.

If I had any gripes about Square, it would be that your hardware design is a bit stagnant, I want you to replace my service ticket system, and I wish my loan offers were larger, but those are personal reasons and take nothing away from how awesome Square is.

Square was recommended to me by a friend who was using it in her business.  It was easy to set up and began using which is why I'm still rocking with you guys.  I love that it's not complicated.  I've tried one other platform and literally got a headache trying to set up an online store.

In 2014 and 2015, when our business was just starting, we looked at many POS systems that were recommended to us, and what we liked most about Square was the ease of getting started and set up, as well as the many features.  After looking at, and physically testing, a handful of other POS systems, we found that the following features were must haves that come with Square and not with other systems.  Some systems may have had some of these, but Square was the only one with all of them without having to subscribe to external 3rd party apps.  Some of the following have been added since we committed to Square, and so it just keeps getting better.

  • Employee clock in/clock out
  • Customer Rewards
  • Customizable Rewards system to suit our needs
  • Email Marketing
  • Customer Engagement
  • Payroll
  • Team Scheduling
  • Strong API System for custom integrations
  • WiFi enabled for remote connectivity and sales (no need for an ethernet connection)
  • Versatile for both In-Store and Off-Site Sales via mobile phone, tablet, virtual terminal, etc.
  • Customer Service that makes it super easy to talk to a human when there is an issue or we need help.

We have definitely developed quite a fondness of Square and cannot imagine utilizing another system.

Square was easiest when we first started and were small.  Now it's just incredibly difficult to get Square to sync with our web site.

Perhaps I may be able to help with this.  What platform is your website?  What tool are you using to sync?

Which web platform are you using?

We have used Shopify in the past with Square and it was working really good.

We were also early adopters of Square before a lot of other providers (like paypal) followed Square's lead.

IE: First to provide an easy card scanner for smart phones.

We first set up a Square account years ago for mobile payment processing at off-site events.  We had an aging POS and were looking to update when Square developed the Register and Square for Retail, so jumped on.  It's not perfect, but it is working to improve and has so many great features!  We appreciate the intuitive operation of most features.  If I have any complaints, it's the reporting is not as robust as I would like, particularly in inventory and purchasing (but that's another post on another day)

The ease of getting started was the first thing that made Square an easy pick. And the next thing was that unlike most traditional credit card processors, there wasn't a monthly fee, only the fee per use. This was really important to me because I started out doing traveling art shows and pop-up shops, so I might go several months without a show, and then have 4-5 or more in one month. I just didn't see paying for the service for those months I wasn't going to shows.

It's been probably almost 5 years now since I started using Square, and my business has grown with many thanks going to Square. I now use their POS on their Square Register, as well as Marketing and Loyalty programs. Thank you Square for making payment processing super easy and no stress!  🙂

We tested in 2012 and fully switched over in 2013.  Now it is common to see companies that offer a one-rate pricing type model but back then, and still now with a lot of CC processors, it was the wild west.  Square was a revolution. You never knew what rate you were being charged until the next month when you got your statement.  It could turn out that the home depot reward card costs you 3.7% but that the platinum ultra airline reward card costs you 5.6%.  there were like a dozen tiers of qualified and unqualified cards and a ton of other fees like batch closing, monthly fees, $1,000 plus terminals, multiple dedicated phone lines, etc.

Square simplified everything, while also bringing us into the modern age of POS systems that give us so much data on our customers, buying trends, yearly sales, etc.  The POS in the spinning Square stand looked so futuristic compared to giant cash registers and stand-alone CC terminals.

Now add in the online sales component and we are able to compete with the big Brick and Mortar, and the Online sales channels all thru one platform.

The move to Square was one of the greatest to get out business modernized and out of spiral-bound notebooks of record keeping.

#1  POS brick and mortar with an eCommerce option at reasonable price.  Shopify and Light speed were too $ and we didn't need all their features.

#2 Options for hardware, didn't need to by equipment specific (I pad is usable if the system wasn't for us)

#3 Paying for services we need

#4 Back end accessible anywhere any time.

#5 No contracts

Thanks

I would admit also that when we first started using square a number of years ago it did save us all of the hassle from the credit card processing companies. However that time has passed. Square is now large enough and a big player in the industry that they can do whatever they want. Square has never been good about customer service ever! Square continues to increase their rates plus a measly $0.10/ transaction is really just a money grab. I keep my eye out for other processing companies to see if there is comprable service especially when it comes down to customer service. Try to get anyone on the phone at Square you will not be able to do it. I don't like the fact that square takes my customers and makes them their customers. These are my customers coming to me with the credit card squares role in the whole process is to work in the background and process the card. I don't want Square contacting my customers to ask them how the sale was. That's None of squares business. So those are the things that I don't like about Square. 3% charges a money grab of a measly $0.10 on each transaction because they fear raising their rates so they'll do it sideways by adding $0.10 per transaction. And if there's no absolutely no customer service. I still use it.

I did forget to mention also I purchased squares equipment when we first set up shop in the hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of equipment the stand the iPad the separate accessories that we needed. Only to find out that all of that is outdated and we need to buy another piece of square equipment. I don't like being worked around and spending hundreds of dollars on Obsolete equipment. At the rate you earn money that the square earns money for processing cards they could provide that equipment at no to low-cost. However they do not do it. They charge the merchant so it's always the merchant that pays and pays and pays with square.
