Do you give a paper receipt or digital receipt?

With the holiday season upon us, I thought this would be a fun question to ask everyone.

Do you give a printed receipt or only digital receipt?

We do paper receipts, we sell a lot to grandparents and they like paper receipts. I think it gives them sense of security and convenience with a physical receipt. I have noticed recently that younger people are asking for paper receipts for their budgeting. I also feel it makes a greater connection with the customer when you can hand them a receipt and say "Thank You" for supporting our business, plus it makes exchanges easier with the barcode being printed at the bottom.

What is everyone eles thought on paper or digital receipts?

I give what the Customer wants.  Alot do not want any, some want printed, and if their information appears I ask if they want a text receipt to their last 4 digits of or to an email address of?   I have found out that if I just ask if they want a Text receipt or an Emailed receipt, they are thinking they do not want to stand their as I type this information in.  But when I suggest one of these and let them know I already have the information they usually want the digital one.  This helps very slightly keeping costs of receipt paper down.

@Candlestore I understand we have some young people that do care about a paper receipt. They just want to tap and go. I know about the cost also, just a couple of years ago we were paying 30.00 for a case of receipt. now it's up to 69.00 a case.

This is why I ask ppl if they want a receipt.  Then when that screen populates with the email or cell number, I state If you would like a receipt i can send it to a Phone ending in 1234 or email of Th.....@Ya***.com.  This get people who might want a Printed receipt to go sure send it digitally.  Worst instant I had was a person said that is my ex's Email or phone number not mine.

We don't use Square as often because of our service industry, 99% of people pay with a check but we do have one commercial client that has to use a card and I have to pull up the receipt on my computer screen, print it out and then scan it and send it as a pdf to him.  If I try to send the receipt straight from Square in the system, it doesn't give him the same information as what my screen shows me, so that is really frustrating.  Those that do use the card with us, normally want digital and I'm running the card over the phone or my husband is doing it in person on his phone, so we ask how they want it.

We give digital receipts- when we were first opening up we decided to not buy a receipt printer 'cause we wanted to put that money towards inventory... if people want a receipt they'll go digital 🙂

Both.  I always ask if they want a paper receipt or if they expressed it was a gift I offer a gift receipt.
