Hello. I am Clint and I have a, well, unique business. I recently passed my certification to become a health coach. I am also a certified personal trainer and a licensed massage therapist. I am currently trying to work out (no pun intended) how to have all 3 disciplines flow together in my business, Selah Wellness. Right now, it is mainly the massage side that is doing well, as I have been a LMT for just over 6 yrs now and the other 2 disciplines I acquired more recently.
Welcome to the group, @Selah-Wellness! 👋
I could imagine that some people may like having a personal trainer work with them, then after the work-out get a massage to balance out the training with something soothing.

Hello my name is Carol Rood. I don’t really have any letters to put behind my name lol. I guess I could say HM1 (RET) and LE, MA and LEI. But who even knows what all those things mean amiright?
So my story is I spent 20 years in the Navy as a Corpsman and retired in 2004. I immediately went to work for a local Dermatologist as a Medical Assistant and he taught me skin care and I performed Chemical peels and Microdermabrasion on patients under his license. While there I was blessed to be able to use my GI Bill and attended ODU and graduated with a BS in Psychology and a BS in women’s studies. The MD I worked for closed the practice in 2017 so at the young age of 51 I decided to go to Esthetician school! I graduated in 2018 and started a business called Sugar and Skin Spa. I knew I needed to be an anomaly to grow so I provided house calls and learned how to do Sugaring hair removal which really wasn’t done in Hampton Roads Virginia where I live. I am incredibly grateful that my business grew in leaps and bounds and we are now a staff of 9, comprised of Estheticians and a Certified Athletic Trainer who does massage and sports medicine at the spa. I am very excited to learn from and connect with you all. I also teach Sugaring, and other advanced skincare techniques to other Estys and students. Thank you if you read all that. And if so Ooh Rah! 😊
Those mean something to me, @SugarAndSkinSpa! Both of my parents were in the Navy for 20+ years before they retired. Thank you for your service!
That is some amazing growth, too - very impressive!
I had never heard of sugaring so I googled to educate myself. Interesting that as a hair-removal method that it's been around for a few thousand years!

Hello everyone,
My name is Lyn Tackett. I’m an Aesthetician, owner of the Genesis Studio Spa in downtown Waterloo, IA, and an Ethnobotanist specializing in ancient and indigenous healing practices. I graduated from the University of Northern Iowa as a McNair Scholar majoring in Anthropology with a minor in Biology (Plant Sciences). Wow! Those degrees really helped us navigate through & after the pandemic.
Our studio spa offers natural skin care services as wells as products good for you and our planet. We believe strongly in supporting locally-owned and fair trade certified businesses. We offer full body sugaring, facials (including Gua Sha & Kanza), reflexology and ear candling.
Since our books are constantly full with a waiting list, Square POS and Appointments are critical components to keeping us on track, allowing us to start & finish on schedule and be flexible with payment methods. That was vital when the Derrecho Winds hit us & took down towers and grids. Thanks for creating this group, Adam. Really enjoy meeting our members. Blessings!
You're welcome, @Lyn4Skin, and thank you for joining! I considered pursuing a degree in Anthropology or Archaeology in college, but ultimately went in a different direction. Still fascinates me to this day, though!

I love that you care for both humans and the planet that we live within. Both are equally important and I wish great things for you and your business🙂

Hi Adam and thank you for the invite!!
I live in Las Vegas , NV and I became a Permanent Makeup Artist in 2019. Finished my Apprenticeship Fall of 2019 and had my grand opening one month before the pandemic hit and shut us down😕 Awful start. With the city in discord it was extremely difficult to generate new business. I am NOT, however, a quitter. Not the biggest fan of SM but understand it is necessary so I have worked on my craft and attended courses and continued to work intermittently.
I am a RN of 25 years and still in the Air Force Reserve. I am recalibrating my business and will add to my service line, Fine Line Tattooing and Tattoo Lighting/Removal. Microblade, Machined Brows and Lips are currently on the menu!! I work weekends and evenings!!
Anyone with creative and cost effective marketing ideas?? I would love to brainstorm. I learn every day and I am open to quirky ideas as well!! After all, I am in Vegas and it supports everything!! I’ll be rebooting my SM and adding to my Website soon!! https://www.monarchcosmetictattoo.com/
I look forward to chatting and sharing!!
Sherene
Hi Sherene!
You have such an amazing background. Well done!
I completely hear ya on struggling with starting a new business. I moved and opened RIGHT before shutdown last year and it is tough. But, you have to go through the suck to enjoy the sweet right? (She says as she remembers ALL the tears last year).
Anyway, I agree with you on the SM thing. You hear it everywhere that you have to be active on all the platforms all the time to get yourself out there, right? (Again, tears) Anyway. Wrong. That is legitimately impossible.
In the downtime last year I dove in to business classes that I've been in but hadn't the time to really do (Thrivers Society. If you haven't heard of it, highly recommend. Applicable to businesses other than hair). I focused HEAVILY on who my target market really was and thought of where that person is spending their time. Then, this year, when I had some distance and wasn't so emotionally charged, I fully implemented. I haven't posted daily to IG and FB in 4 months and couldn't be busier. Why? I was strategic on where I was posting to really grab my TM: updating my Google listing, Yelp (I know), connecting on neighborhood sites, and essentially guerilla marketing.
So, I don't know if that helps, but I noticed that when I took a step back and really thought about my target market first, thinking of what they want to see, it helped really fine tune what, where and when I posted.

Love it!!! I will check out Thrivers. I literally just set up my Google Market account a few days ago LOL!! I also have a Nextdoor one that I will finish in the next week. I tried my local Zipcode book in LV but was disappointed when I didn’t even receive my own book in the mail so not a fan of that distribution piece. TM…I need to revisit and be sure it is the same as my original business plan. I believe so… but where they hang out. That’s been a challenge.
Guerrilla marketing…now that I need to hone a bit more!
Thank you for the suggestions and for sharing!
I have been so daunted my SM that I needed to figure that out myself (TM, posing with a purpose and all that). I took a course that was free from a hairstylist in Florida who shared her thoughts and ideas. She suggested planning out your entire month (she suggested using Planoly which I have yet to use) and then set reminders to post. This way it’s all done ahead of time and it saves the headache. There were also tips like using engagement (with asking questions or polling) that gets more people to see your posts. Remembering to post with a purpose instead of just posting to post will help to get that transfer from followers to clients! Hope that was helpful at all 😂

Hey AdamB... I am new to this thread stuff and it's kind of convoluted... I'm not seeing how to pose a question/start a thread. Also, is there a place where I can see topics specific to this group rather than throughout the square community?
Hi, @AestheticsElite. The easiest thing would be to go to the main beauty group category page, since you can see a list of all threads in the group. There's also a button at the top to start a new thread. If you scroll up to the breadcrumb links at the top, the first "beauty and wellness" listed as you read left to right will also take you there.

Hello everyone! My name is Christina I live in Jacksonville FL. My business, The Purple Dolphin, is small compared to most of you. I do not have a physical location for sales. I do farmer's markets, pop up markets and shows on the weekends. I hand make all of my products myself; soaps, shower steamers, bath bombs, beard oil and more.
Thanks for the Invite AdamB! I am an Independent Hairstylist here in Florida. Square has made running my business so much easier. My clients love the ease of check out. I look forward to learning from all of you!
Hi everyone, I'm a solo beauty therapist here in Australia (currently entering our 7th week of lockdown 2.0 with no end in sight).
I trained as a 30yr old after realising I wasn't passionate about the corporate world. I'm loving working from home raising my kids and trying to balance the two. Most of my work is brows and lash lifts but do all body waxing, including brazilians facials and spray tanning mostly.
I just found the invite email to this so keen to see what it is all about.
Have a great day 🙂
Hi Melsbeauty!!
Congratulations on starting your new venture😃
