Monthly Memberships

Does anyone sell a monthly membership online?

I'd like to hear how you set it up and run it each month.

I have a monthly membership and the client gets a facial + 10% discount on all other services or products.

I'd like it to auto-renew each month.

I'd like the ability to add the discount code directly to the customer so when they checkout online or instore they automatically get their member pricing.

I'd like a simple way to track if they used their facial each month. Right now I use a spreadsheet.

Any tips would be appreciated!

Hi @Doran!

I sell annual memberships but maybe what I do might help you a little bit. Although I have set up recurring memberships using Subscriptions on my Square Dashboard and a few clients have mentioned they intend to renew using that feature, I have to date sold memberships and renewals at the POS during checkout for services.

To keep track of the level of membership (I have "Basic" and "Plus" memberships) and the expiry date I have set up custom fields in the Customers > Settings > Configure Profiles. A multiple choice selection is used to identify a membership level and a date field is used to track the expiry date. Accordingly, I have special pricing for members set up in my Services menu, ie; Regular, Basic, Plus. Only the Regular price is shown online for bookings so I have to click on the client name to view if they have a valid membership then edit their appointment to select the appropriate pricing option. It's not exactly elegant but it is practical and prevents non-members from selecting the lower price option.

In your case you might set up an additional field for Facial and use that to inform when someone has used up their Facial credit. Now you have to remember to reverse the Facial selection when you set a new expiry date upon renewal. Again, no elegance here but gets the job done. Adding any automation is a little outide my imagination at this moment. I'll chime back in if anything to comes to mind. At this point I'm not even sure this is easier than a spreadsheet but I know although I do track all this in a spreadsheet I no longer have to look at it since it's all right there in my Square Appointments on screen in the moment I need it.

Good luck!

Hi @Doran in case the current options in Square are not meeting your needs there is an add-on in the Square app store that I created that automates membership.  My company is called Submatic (https://squareup.com/ca/en/app-marketplace/app/submatic?tab=reviews)

We can automate both the member discount (10% off in your case) and the tracking of services (1 per month, etc).

Here are some live examples of various Submatic powered sign up pages being used by Square merchants:

You are welcome to sign up for a free trial at https://submatic.io/register/company if you want to set up a test with your Square account.  Thanks!

Are there any yoga studio owners or fitness professionals out there who are able to use recurring membership options that allow redeeming for classes upon attendance?

I understand that Square is working on a class packages beta program to create class packages that deduct once a person signs up for a class. I'm wondering if a membership option might also allow this? I signed up for the beta tester class packages program, not sure if I've been approved but that would be a game changer for me.

Hey there @aline2024, I did reach out to our Beta Team, and they did state there is currently a Packages beta going on right now, and in about 1-2 weeks they will be rolling out the ability to include Classes in these Packages. A Beta team member will be reaching out to confirm you are in this beta. If you need anything else please let me know! 🙂

Hello, I'm seeking this very thing as well. I'm about to launch a yoga studio in my neighborhood and I want to sell drop ins, class packs and recurring memberships. Is there any documentation on how to setup Square Appointments to do this for a yoga studio? Most of the tutorial content I see is geared towards retail and cosmetic services.

MayaP this would be a gift! This is exactly what I've been looking for, I'm trying now to update my square site and I can't for the life of me figure out how to create classes, I can see services but not classes. Is there a help article you might recommend on this? I've been asking Square for 8 years to get into the yoga business, this would be incredible if this works out!
