Hello, my name is Alicia and I’ve been in private practice for going on 7 years now. I am a mental health therapist and specialize in working with kids/teens and their families. I also work with young to middle aged adults. I tend to treat anxiety, trauma, and depression most often and enjoy working with those who identify as being highly sensitive.
My modality is EMDR and I incorporate mindfulness and behavioral modifications where necessary.
I am also a mom of two kids, ages 4 months and almost 4 year old.
Nice to meet you and thanks for welcoming me to this hub.
Best,
Alicia Schmitz

Welcome to the group, @akss83! Thank you for providing this kind of help - sometimes just talking to someone who really listens makes a huge difference.

Hi Alicia,
Thanks for all that you do. There are many of us who suffer from mental health conditions so it is a blessing to have those like you that have a passion for helping people in that manner. Would love to get to know more about you and the service you provide so I will head over to your website. Take care and reach out anytime.

Thank you, Ernestine. I sure appreciate it. Now more than ever, support is crucial. It’s been great to see more people reaching out and the stigma lessening. My best to you.
Hi Alicia!
I too am an EMDR practitioner. A u of Minnesota Grad (PhD '76). I was lucky enough to have been trained by Francine and her early team of trainers in Seattle waaaay back when... I recently obtained a patent for a device to allow us to provide for delivering EMDR on-line and looking for investors to get it out there asap... a challenge. In any case, I am huge on EMDR and recently I been having interesting successes in helping couples, both of whom suffer complex PTSD from childhood trauma, and are able to integrate their EMDR experiences openly with their partner in our conjoint sessions.
I have a question or two about using Square to process patient payments.
How do you set up "Inventory"?
Have you any hints on how to enter the CPT codes appropriate to the length of time in session? I always use 90837 = 1.0 Hour,
90832 = 30 minutes and
90834 = 45 minutes.
I am looking to "un-prefer" myself from BCBS et al.: they are just too brutal and expensive to deal with. I've been in practice for 50 years and got along just fine until ten years ago when I somehow got suckered into being a "Preferred Provider" and now I am taking them out of the middle.
As I used to tell my patients, "you have a contract with them"; to which I would add, "...but I don't. I have a contract with you to provide you the very best of personal therapy and I will provide you with everything your insurer requires to process your claims. You submit the claim and they and they will reimburse you according to your policy".
But, I now have contracts and am in the process of executing their "escape" clauses. Hence SQUARE looms large as I will be collecting at time of service and ideally want to send them a professional and attractive receipt in the form of a payment - at time of payment - that they can submit in lieu of a monthly bill and all that entails.
Any thoughts?
