Seller Community Ranks

What is a rank?

Your rank is how you can keep track of your involvement in the Seller Community. If you’re continually active in the Community, your rank will change to show your progress. Ranks are intended to show other Community members your level of expertise and tenure, and to boost your personal reputation.

Why do some avatars have a different color or icon?

You may have noticed that some avatars in the community have a different background color, and some also include an icon. The colors are a quick way for everyone in the community to see someone’s rank.

As you rank up to higher levels, your background color will go from green, to blue, to purple all the way up to orange.Screen Shot 2017-02-27 at 2.04.55 PM.png

If you become a Super Seller, your avatar will be updated to blue and it will feature the Super Seller logo.

If you join the Beta Community to help test new features and tools your avatar will be updated to have a teal background, and it will feature the Beta logo.

Where do these ranks appear?

You’ll see your rank on your personal profile page, listed under your username. Your avatar will be included in every post or reply you make in the Seller Community, showing your rank color and logo if you have one.

What do I need to do to level up?

We can’t tell you exactly what it takes - what chef gives away the secret family recipe? 😉

Here’s what we can say: you’ll move to the next level by staying active in the Community. Keep replying to threads with high-quality answers and starting new conversations. Remember to give out likes for good comments and mark “best answers” as you see them.

The more you participate, the closer you’ll get to that next level! A good place to start is with the unanswered questions.

We’ll continue improving ranks with time. If we make any changes, we’ll update this post to let you know!

I'm not sure what the purpose of seller community rank is. Who cares how active you are in a discussion group. Is there an actual benefit to participating?

Hi @RPS!

I moved your post to a relevant thread in the Community that breaks down what the ranks are.

Yes. That’s an awesome question! Just for asking it, you’re going to be moved up two rungs in the seller community ranks. Congratulations!

Well for me, I see multiple things a ranking system does and with most things in business. Allow me to give you an example:  Who are you more likely to listen to or go to for help or advice even assistance or solutions to a real life situational situation and you notice that theres a community to turn to who's users Jobs  could vary from a lawn service to electronic repairs, security specialist, data forensics, web site developers, or even someones whos made 100,000 sales and transactions (surely they've been around the block a few times) maybe even done some high dollar sales in the millions? Whos to say, but given a ranking system of activity and activeness as well as provide extremely useful information about an issue or question concerning a topic of interest who are you more likely to listen to or trust in their response if you had to trust an apprentice or master electrician wiring your home who would be more likely to question the quality of work you'll recieve given the price was equal? Hehe, I over explain since I aimed toward a wider audience. Hope it helps some?

Agreed. Just got a message about this. Unless it has some tangible benefit (like lowering fees!) what’s the difference?

Well, it helps when a new user is looking for good answers to build their business! I like them trust the answers there giving by the level of the user lever and they will do the same.

I was honestly thinking the same thing. Like if a higher ranking means your comments or replies show up on the feed more like with Google reviews? Or you get 1 million dollars after hitting a certain ranking status, I’d be all over this haha

I agree that Square could get lots more really valuable comments if they gave each person with a certain number of "points" each month some bonus......maybe $50 or $100 free processing for a month?

If you are active in the seller community, your feedback and answers can be weighted by the reader based on your rank! I’m rank 3...so, don’t place as much stock in what I say compared to a level 9 user!

Ranking is about trust and legitimacy, effort into the platform. It's like Yelp and Elites, or Reddit, or Ebay. Plus Square marketing knows that many people like rankings, to acknowledge their efforts. Because I am in the Bay Area, I have been to Square Offices (Pre-pandemic) in DTSF 3 times. On one, I did an interview with their product team on a new service they were researching, and wanted User feedback. This forum is another way for them to hear from their Customers, to improve and perhaps launch new products and services. The ranking system just creates an easy way to separate the active Users, and the whining interlopers, instantly, for anyone who uses it. It's not a free lunch.
