We need to collect a little more information from customers at checkout. Our products are classes and events, so we need to capture a participant's name (child, not the parent paying) and age, at minimum. Is there a way to add a few custom fields to the checkout process? Thanks!

You can add a "note to seller" field, although that's the only extra field that can be added during the checkout process for the time being. We are considering adding options for more custom information fields during checkout, although I don't have any specifics on when or if we'll do that, though.
You might be able to make a hidden page on your site with a standard form, then include a link to that on Order Confirmation email.

We would definitely welcome the flexibility of custom forms during the checkout process, and I'm sure others would as well!

Delivery is something we're working on; I'm not sure what that will look like as part of the checkout process, but it should help make that aspect of checkout better for you. As for messages for cards, you could add a text input modifier to specific items so that the customer adds the text at the time they add the item to their cart.

Yes, add a note is okay, but it would be much more helpful to have custom fields. Ex. I'm a florist and it would be a great help if they could indicate delivery date; they might remember to do it on their own, but if not I have to get in touch with everyone who place an order. Or having a field for "card message", because often if we don't prompt them to leave one when we take orders on the phone, 50% of the time they forget about it, but it's our job to remind them that they want to leave one. Agree to policies would be a great tick box. etc. Comments section is definetly helpful, they can say it's a surprise / don't give away sender identity, indicate a second choice option for a seasonal flower, ask to swap out the greens, ect. but it's not enought on its own; it's okay... for now. But it shouldn't be something you consider, it should be something you work on, because some sellers will want to prompt the specific information they're looking for / need for an order.

Go to Settings > Checkout > Advanced Setting and click the Edit button, @stannersss - you should see an option to enable it there.

I don't see an edit button in advanced settings. I'd like to add a box that people can check to add shipping insurance to their order but can't seem to figure that out. I've been researching for hours...

It's not possible to customize the checkout screen, @lindsay_holden. Are you using one of the shipping options we provide? I believe our USPS and UPS accounts include up to $50 in coverage, but I would need to confirm with someone.
