Allow Sale of Out of Stock Product
Is there a way to allow sales of Out of Stock options? Right now it just says Out of Stock under the quantity box and does not allow a customer to order. Due to the way we handle inventory, some of our less popular items are only order from the manufacturer when some purchases, so we want to be able to allow customers to purchase out of stock items.

Hi @ANF No, that isn't possible. You could create a category titled "out of stock items" and make sure to include the information on the product details page. This way the customer knows it is an out of stock item and may take longer to receive.

Please add this feature! It would allow for both out of stock items to be sold in the way that @ANF described and it would allow for customers to pre-order items that haven't been manufactured yet.

Or you could include instructions to have the customer reach out to you via contact form and you can make arrangements for purchase.

Thank you to both replies. What we have chosen to do is set all of our item stock levels at 100 to represent 0 in stock. Anything over 100 is how many are actually in stock. It allows our customers to keep ordering and we know that 100 is the same as 0.

Ah, that's smart. Glad you were able to find a work-around.

Having a way to turn on the ability to backorder would be even better than the workaround, especially because I want customers to know when they are ordering something that is backordered, since the processing time will be much longer.
