Result of 2 hour consultation with Google Analytics Team - Re Duplicated Tracking Codes
We have just had a 2 hour session with Google Analytics about our site Tracking Tags (under the guise of wanting to place ads but not knowing if we had the code entered correctly).
This was the outcome:
1)The assistant at Goolge Analytics (who really knew her stuff) could see that we had old seo UA- numbers on the site, yet we had removed these, changed them and saved the new ones (taken from our analytics account).
2) The assistant could see that we had the tracking code duplicated on the site, which it shouldn't be.
The options are to either enter the tracking code in the header of individual pages manually, or in the universal area in 'settings.SEO>header', which then adds them to all the pages, but it must not be in both the Home page , any other pages and in the 'settings' SEO>header. This conflicts and Google analytics will not be accurate.
3) We couldn't find where some of the duplicated tracking code was, as we aren't developers (even though we have searched for it in the admin) but you can see them in the page source code. Because of this, we were advised to remove the Tracking code from the universal SEO header setting and just have it in the "Home" page SEO header. This corrected the issue but it's not really the corrrect way round it but our knowledge is limited.
To summerise it seems that Weebly's developers really need to understand more about how Google Tracking codes work, where to put them and where not to put them. The choice is to either manually enter them on individual pages, or in the universal 'SEO settings' tag, but not both.
And Weebly's system needs to update the page source code when text or codes are removed or deleted in the admin. As we know of no other way of doing this other than deleting and publishing the changes.
Perhaps a consultation with Google would benefit Weebly developers, because it seems there are things wrong with the sytem and the advise given re Tracking.

Thanks for doing a lot of legwork, @HTL. Did you add your tracking ID in Store > Setup? An analytics tracking ID added there will also be added to all pages of your site, so if you have it there and have also added the full tracking code in Settings > SEO it would end up duplicated.
