Meta titles have dashes and I don't know why

I've published my first post on my website's blog but I'm experiencing issues with the meta titles on both the blog page and the specific blog post.

The meta titles are correct (not the meta descriptions though - they are just the first sentences of the blog post...) but for some reason, there are extra dashes, and I don't know why and from where.

In the Weebly editor, I've left out texts in Settings > General > Site Title and also Settings > SEO > Site Description. Instead, I've made specific meta titles and meta descriptions for the Blog page and the specific blog post.

So, why do I have these dashes appearing, when the actualt meta titles are correct?

Meta titles are constructed as "page title - site title". It sounds like you don't have anything entered for your site title so there's nothing after the dash.  You can enter something for that on the Settings tab and republish, and after Google updates its search cache of your site it should look better without a dash hanging on the end.

Thanks for the answer. I'm not sure if this will solve my problem though.

Previously, I had the Site Title filled in but this applied to all pages making all the meta titles too long and not really optimised. I work with meta texts so I prefer to write my own rather than having Google or Weebly generate them for me. Leaving Site Title blank allows me to enter what I want - it's only the blog pages, which aren't good. So if I add the Site Title, the blog pages might look alright but then all the other pages' meta titles will become too long.

How much were you looking to place before the hyphen?
